So Joey wanted out, not that the Lions knew he lacked talent or like the Lion fan thread knocking Joey. I love this, Millen now looks even more clueless and Joey should end up being a fin for cheap!
Lions management got caught up in hoping Joey Harrington would embrace the new coaching staff and return to the team.
Instead, three days into a quarterback orientation camp in March, Harrington told president Matt Millen that he wanted out.
Harrington's statement, issued Wednesday by his agent, David Dunn , that he will play only for Miami has killed his value on the trade market. Millen has a close relationship with Harrington and should have seen it coming.
Now, Millen is left to beg Miami for a sixth-round draft pick -- from a team that desperately needs quarterback insurance and knows that no later than mid-June it can have Harrington as a free agent.
Also, although any official contact with Harrington would run Miami afoul of NFL rules on tampering, the Dolphins have signed tight end Justin Peele -- who has remained one of Harrington's closest friends from their playing days at Oregon.
Whether by accident or design, Harrington's parting shot to the Lions was a completion. He stuck it to them.
