When the Dolphins selected Tony Lippett in the fifth round of this year’s draft, they knew they were getting a long-term project with a lot of potential.
He might be ahead of schedule.
Lippett, who made some standout plays at cornerback in training camp, was pressed in to significant action on defense of the first time in his career on Sunday.
With Brent Grimes out with an illness and Brice McCain injuring his knee in the first half of the win against Philadelphia, Lippett played 23 percent of Miami’s defensive snaps.

He has the physical talent to be a starter. They should continue to give him snaps to develop his confidence.

I was wondering who was the one that got beat on one of those plays. I knew I seen number 36.

Haha. I'm glad the guy's getting a shot, and Bobby McCain too. We need more tape on them if we're going to draft a CB high next year, which we should without a doubt; know what we have and what we're missing.

Considering what a huge fan I was of his and the way he played in college, I was so damn excited we drafted him. It would be nice to be reminded in this back half of the season that we did in fact have a really good draft this year.

Honestly, I think the kid has upside and I think he may very well be a better prospect than Jamar Taylor. The caveat is we have spent more time picking apart Taylor. I watched Lippett on Sunday and thought he looked solid. Bobby McCain certainly did, grading on a curve, keeping in mind these guys are rooks.

I would love an analysis of both Lippett and Bobby if somebody watched them closely. I was at a bar and sometimes its hard to focus on just 1 game

I watched Lippett play a lot in college. Very good football player, played some corner early in college. Could be a stud.

Wow....I was so excited to see a thread that wasn't about Tannehill......thanks OP.

I like this kid. He got some decent snaps last week and hopefully he gets to see more in the coming weeks and we can see what we have got. We have some decisions to make next year at CB and it would be nice to know if he can be part of the solution.

Nice. There's some good news. I was excited at the prospect of such a tall player being drafted to play corner. He played and didn't get embarrassed. That's an encouraging start.

Maybe with his experience and abilities at WR he can become what we thought sean smith would be

Ever since Vontae and Sean Smith left Miami, both have become pretty good CBs. Worst coaching staff and management in the NFL

Nolan Carroll has become decent too - if anyone cares to notice. And Nolan would not have been expensive to re-sign. He is smart and competed hard every week in Miami but was shot down here on FH.
