Yes, tons of speculation by the media and fans.

Fans ask and say..."there hasnt been a report on his injury...no announcement....not diagnosed...."

Fact is there wont be until after this game. Medical records are protected by law, patient privacy is a very significant violation punishable by jail time and large fines.

All the medical information and literature indicates that IF RB has LF, the treatment, healing process, rehab, before being able to play would extend his abscense significantly...perhaps even for the year.

Any, again, any significant foot injury is major.

10% of all broken bones occur in the foot. The foot has 26 bones. In most cases, major 'foot' injuries include a broken bone.

The second fins released that this was a foot injury more than an ankle I knew it was bad for the above reasons.

Absent of a radiological exam (which he has had), if the patient cannot take 4 consecutive steps at the moment immediately after the injury and AGAIN at time of physician or exam in the ED, it is usually a broken foot.

The fact that he is going to a 'specialist' indicates that there is some opinion that requires surgery. Typically, a patient does not see a specialist for diagnosis and non invasive treatment.

My educated guess to set realistic expectations with our fans is that he has a broken bone in his foot, he has been told the S word (surgery), and this effectively takes him out for the season.

Differential is that he has a severe foot sprain with lots of soft tissue damage, but no fractures, this still will require extensive rehab, and time, which takes him out at least 4 weeks (miraculous) and probably 8 weeks.

Any attempt at returning (especially in football) prematurely causes a 75% chance of re-aggravating the injury. And if that happens, he risks his entire career.

We will have to get along without Ronnie Brown for a long time sorry to say.

I agree. I watched the game on the NFL replay yesterday. There was a great angle on his foot when it happened. My God!!!! it didn't look good. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he's done for the year.

Great Information man, Nice Post!

Sucks we will be without RB, thank god we have Ricky. Especially Ricky in the good shape he is in.
Chubbs

That's all *If* RB has that particular injury. So far it seems to be started by a fantasy football site. I'll wait for a credible source.

Didn't you know? Phinfreak is a credible source. He went to high school. And he stayed at a Holiday Inn last night (I stole that one from another poster, lol).

I feel in my gut that he's done for the year :boohoo:

Just sad to think, and read, about. Thanks for the info though, just hoping for the best.

If Ronnie is done for the year, what do we do? Stand pat with what we have or look to add a vet?

Edgerrin James for 1/2 a season??

Well, he may be right. Who knows? RB may well be out the rest of the year. I'll just wait on a credible source to say so.

All speculation, that's why it's called a rumor, and until we know for sure, he could be out as little as 1-2 weeks, to calling it a career..we don't know for sure.

Yes, all speculation at this point.

What I am trying to do for you is to provide an educated perspective based upon the known facts.

RB remains 100% on crutches.
RB could not take the prerequisite 4 consecutive steps in 'broken foot' assessment.
RB has a severe enough foot injury (vs ankle) to cause need for "specialist" visit.
RB is out this week.
Majority of foot injuries that fail 4 step test = broken bone.
Broken bone in foot = surgery (most times depending)
Surgery = out for season
No Sx but severe foot injury = out 3-6 weeks with high ( as much as 75% chance) of re injury.

So, although little has been announced, which in of itself is an indication, we can predict the situation with the known facts.

Do your own research if this is important to you and you want to learn something.

Because I am a fan, and many of us are concerned for RB and the team, I felt it would be helpful to offer my experience in at least putting brackets around what RB is going through.

That's all.

Maybe they just want to err on the side of caution and want a second opinion to confirm it is just a sprain not a displacement?

Nope.

Sprains vs fractures are easy to diagnose. It can be done very quickly and on the sideline during the game.

IMO, the caution and second opinion or RB desire to see a specialist smells of surgery to me. Just a guess mind you, but, look at it this way, how often did you go see a specialist for a second opinion for a sprain?

In fact, how often would anybody go see a specialist or seek second opinion if X-rays and MRI's came back negative or positive?

It was said that X-rays were negative...question I have is negative for what? Ankle, fracture, etc.?

If X-rays and MRI are indeed negative, meaning there is no broken bone(s), then it's all soft tissue, which is very painful i.e. crutches, and requires an extended period of "rest, elevation, ice..." and then after swelling subsides and enough time for tissue to begin to heal, rehab.

If the latter, it's 3-6 weeks out for a football player at any level.
