I've been listening to 1490 The Ticket, for a bit (Harrisburg's Fox Sports broadcast), and they were talking to Adam Schefter about rumros of several big name players like Briggs, Faneca, and Samuels being linked to the Fins and he had an interesting response...
He basically said that despite the 1-15 season, there are several players that are about to hit the FA market that have an interest in playing in Miami. Samuels has interest because he is a Florida native and, despite starting his career as a Patriot, would love to play for the team of his childhood. Faneca has some interest cause the idea of playing for Tony Sparano is intriguing to him. Several other FAs and agents just have way too much respect for Wayne,Tuna, and Ireland to not atleast give them a chance.
That said, he (Scheffter) does not see us being overly agressive with big name guys (though he did say that Samuels might get a push because of a huge hole at CB and the positive impact a pro bowl native would have on the community), but they will be signing several mid level guys who can be used as foundations for something great. Schefter would not be surprised to see us sign any combination of Justin Smiley,Ernest Wilford (who is rumored to sign tonight),Reggie Torbor,Eugene Wilson, Kris Wilson,Calvin Pace,Marques Douglas, and the Dallas CBs (Jaques Reeves and Nate Jones). Also thinks we have a decent shot at Gibril Wilson (who he does not consider a big name guy).
Says that Fins should have an offseason that will bring in players good enough to pull the team from a 1-5 team to a team that should win between 5-7 games.
