Beck will be a solid addition to the Miami staff. He's not flashy and his ego isn't bigger then life like allot of NFL Qb's. Beck has had some difficult times in college and has risen to each challenge.

Before BYU....wasn't even recruited until late into his Sr year. Broke a bunch of Arizona highs school records, helped team go deep in state playoffs. BYU did not recruit him out of high school but signed with BYU after his mission anyway.

Freshman year. This was a tough year for John Beck. Gary Crowton had just finished a rough season after his glory rookie season as the BYU coach. John Beck was back-up to Matt Berry. Matt was injured early in the season and John was pressed ready or not into Gary's wacky offense. Beck still had some decent games, but the whole team struggled that season. That season they played USC in LA, and Stanford when they actually were decent team. So those people who don't think that Beck has played anyone decent are crazy.

Sophmore year, this was a better season, but Gary Crowton's last one. Beck had a fast WR finally to throw the ball too, (Todd Watkins), and a pretty good freshman named Austin Collie. Both were much better then most BYU WR's. Beck demonstrated his ability to throw the long ball all season long. Gary's wacky offense of course changed from game to game, and eventually the internal problems with the team continued to hamper and you could tell it bothered Beck. The cool thing is Beck always remained loyal to his team and team mates. With the internal problems going on that year, it would have been really easy for Beck to develop a bad attitude.

Junior year, this was miles ahead of his previous two years at the helm. You could tell he had really matured. The new offense was rumored to be a copy of Texas Tech's offense. But in reality it was a modified version of the offense BYU played under when Lavell was coach. As for it being a system offense, gimmie a break people, it's an offense that Pro teams have employed for years. USC has become a national power once again because of BYU's system...( I DON'T CARE WHAT PETE CARROLL WANTS TO CLAIM), the system he runs came through Norm Chow, who learned it from all the previous offensive coaches that helped Lavell become a legend at BYU. So Beck's Jr year was a move back to that type offense. Beck though hates making mistakes, and sometimes he was criticized for not taking more chances. If you look at his Interception ratio's his JR and SR year, they are remarkedly low for a QB who threw as much as he did.

Senior year, this was the year he shined on the field and as a leader. Anyone on this team knew Beck was the man. I witnessed myself one of the greatest play's in BYU history ( BYU/UTAH game 2006) and I've seen some great play's (Miracle Bowl - Jimmy McMahon to Clay Brown). Bottom line were his statistics were fantastic, and if two FG's would have been made, BYU would have played in the Fiesta bowl instead of Boise State, and that's not just wishful thinking either.

So can Beck play in the NFL? We will see, there is no guarantee, but who really thinks Brady Quinn is that much better. The only reason some of the Fin fan's still think that Quinn is better is simply two words, "NOTRE DAME". That darn schools mystic is ridiculous! Yes they play tough teams, but they lose allot of those games as well. This last season was not that remarkable for Notre Dame football. How many top 25 teams did Notre Dame beat?.......They beat #17 Penn State...that was it. They beat Ga Tech, Navy, Army, Air Force...wow...BYU beat Air Force just as soundly as Notre Dame. BYU pounded Oregon in the Las Vegas bowl, and Notre Dame was creamed by LSU. I'm sure BYU wouldn't have beaten LSU either, but I'd be surprised if Beck wouldn't have given LSU a tougher game.

So Fin fans cheer up. Beck won't be a Dan Marino, but you'll find him someone that is loyal, competitive, and will work harder then anyone else on that team.

I'm with you, and he will have Ginn running past defenses to through deep to with Chambers underneith.
