NFL | Little progress made at owner's meeting
Wed, 8 Mar 2006 09:06:50 -0800
The Associated Press reports NFL owners made little progress Tuesday, March 7, on deciding whether to accept the proposal by the players' union to extend the labor agreement. "We're not even close to a consensus yet," said Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay. The owners have a deadline set for Wednesday, March 8, at 8 p.m. EST to agree on a new labor agreement, but continue to debate the issue of expanded revenue sharing.

Who cares! We have a coach who can draft and has got the owner spending money.Without the cap we will go back to the days of you have your guys and I have mine.No more of this ohh we don't have the space under the cap stuff.Once we draft a guy he can be ours until we are done with him.saban can draft as he has shown in his first NFL draft. We will bring back the times of players playing their entire career with 1 team and go back to building the franchise throught he draft. Sorry just had to vent!

I don't see this as venting ... I see this as something that could actually be very good for the game. Although, it does have it's downside, I believe when a player is drafted they should stay with a team throughout their entire career unless they are cut. This is the part I would not mind seeing but the down side is the fact that you know players are STILL going to demand to be traded to teams with high revenue and we may begin seeing the New York Yankees of football. Therefore, I'm not stressing on a labor agreement anymore. Whatever happens, happens and each way has its upside and downside.

And the great game of professional American Football (more specificly, the NFL) will be cast into the mediocre sports caldron, stewing with MLB, NHL & NBA. I didn't wait 22 years to see my team BUY it's way into a Superbowl. This ruling has greater impact than you realize.

yea, there will be two or three 'yankees' of football....them being the redskins, cowboys and patriots. Those are the big three.

I dont think it'll be a little worse than you're thinking but really no one knows

Without a CBA the NFL draft will cease to exist. You will bargain with every team for every player coming out each year. They will remain on your team until the contract runs out. The rich teams (Dallas, NY, etc) will prosper, as they get more money (Better stadium deals, better attendance, etc). Just because Hizenga has alot of $$$, don't expect him to run this franchise at a deficit. This is NOT good for the NFL.

Things seem to have been going good for the NFL the last 10 or so years so I say get it done and continue on with the way things have been going.

Agreed.

The Owners and NFLPA need to get this thing done now! These people are going mess with football to the point that it's not going to be the same to watch. I'm keeping hope alive but my optimism for this thing to get done is fading fast.

That article is a little dated (from about 6 hours ago). Progress is probably being made as we speak.

The ESPN article was updated at 2:44pm, I'm assuming you're talking about the first one.
