I was just like this guy, but not as self-controlled.
Seriously, I can recall that Ted Ginn draft to this day, like a punch in the gut. I also remember sitting in a Wendy's parking lot, taking a break from working on my sailboat in Pensacola, listening to the draft on the radio in my car when Denver jumped ahead of us to draft Jay Cutler - who I had my heart set on. I also remember the year when so many dolfans hoped no one else would figure out the talent this one obscure guy named Philip Rivers had -- only to watch his draft stock skyrocket right up to the 1st round. Last year I'd hoped against hope we'd get a shot at Jake Locker but also felt disappointment. (Not all my picks are winners, I also wanted us to get Patrick Ramsey when he first came out - before Spurrier and his 'chuck 'n duck' destroyed him.)
So I was holding my breath right up until the Commissioner said that first name. We needed a shot at greatness and, for the first time in 12 years, we took it.
