Log jam at running back and tight end

It may be a battle between WR and RB with the available spot for a Special Teams contributor.

Bush will not get cut or traded. period. He has such dynamic ability in the WCO and is a playmaker. I like Slaton and am rooting for him. I only think Slaton had fumbling problems b/c of nerve issues before his neck surgery. I'm kinda glad we have a "log jam" at RB....good problem to have.

For the purpose of this thread, let's just assume Charles Clay falls soley in the category as tight end and not as a fullback.

At tight end, I would assume Fasano, Clay and Egnew are locks to make the 53 man roster. But what if the long shot Les Brown does impress, or left overs Yeatman and Mastrud improve?

Running back is extremely congested. You have Bush, Thomas, Slaton, Messam and now Miller competing for roster spots. Five running backs who you could make a strong argument for all to make the team, but do they keep them all?

I think those two positions are going to be very intriguing going forward into mini camps and training camp. A lot of talent worthy of the 53 man roster. Who gets left behind, or do they all make it?

As you may recall, green bay kept 5 tight ends last year. Now I don't necessarily believe they will do that here, but I really am pulling for Les Brown (his skill set is remarkable if it can translate to the field)

they aren't keeping 4 TE's...and probably are not keeping 4 RB's...

Who is Miles?

Clay - 6'3'' 239lbs
Hernandez [New England TE] - 6'1'' 245lbs

care to correct your statement/opinion?

No.

I still live in Gainesville and I've watched every game A Hernadez played in. Hernadez was never even close to being a all around TE, he was a pure pass catcher. And he is fairly small for a TE but very fast, faster then Clay is.

If you want I can list 60-70 NFL TEs bigger then either of them.

reggie bush was one of the few bright spots on this team last year and some of you fools think that hes going to be cut or traded? wow

Don't sleep on Yeatman, he's big and really impressed a lot of people in pre-season with New England last year. If he improves into a decent blocking tight end I would not be shocked if Fasano was moved to go with youth and save money.

Here is one thing I have learned from Ireland: When he drafts a player in the first four rounds, he typically doesn't cut him. So I expect Egnew and Miller to be around. Quite frankly, I don't see a "log jam" at TE. I see a weak position that was just upgraded.

If memory serves, The Packers had 6 TE's on their roster last and fewer WR's.

Per Wikipedia, Clay is listed with the running backs as a FB/TE. My guess is he's used like the Redskins use Cooley.

Listed below are the skill playersis the roster now & early Sept IMO.

I agree 100% with your roster expectation, and I hope it falls that way...

RB: Bush/Thomas/Miller/Slaton
FB: Messam
TE: Fasano/Clay/Egnew/Miles

^^^^ Homie's got it right minus Miles. In all likelihood that's your roster at these positions. And Clay can swing to FB, Messam to RB, and Egnew to WR situationally. They have more and more guys who have flexibility as to what they can do.

I think 5 TEs
4 RBs
1 FB

Egnew, Clay, Fasano (may e cut to sign wake), Yeatman, Les Brown (Mastrud is out)
Bush, Thomas, Miller, Slaton
FB = Messam

I also watched wvery Gator game and Hernandez lined up at TE and was our TE for every game. I wanted phins to draft him coming out but I guess he did not meet the physical Parcells attributes (Go figure)

Bush clearly stays. Slaton sounds safe. Thomas is more of Ronnie Brown, bruising type, and I could see him being traded. Miller will be our #2. That undrafted rb from notre dame, Gray, will ride the practice squad for a year, then will be a factor, going forward.I think you're dead on with the TE spots.Given the fact that we'll be passing more, and that we don't have stud WRs, I see them carrying a large crop of WRs. So, that could affect numbers at other positions

You guys think we can keep more guys at TE/RB/FB than we can. You can't keep 10-11. 8 is the likely number. You're only gonna have 25 guys on the offensive side of the ball. Keep 10 at the above positions, and you'll have 3 QB's. That will leave you with only 12 spots for WR and O-line. Are you really going to go into the season with only 4 WR's and 8 o-linemen???

A) Career year
B) Career year of the player behind him.
c) Draft pick cost

Player 1:
A) 1,325 yards, 7tds
B) 820 yards, 5 tds
C) Two second round picks.

Player 2:
A) 1,086 yards, 6 tds
B) 1,282 yards, 9 tds
C) Player who was going to be on the practice squad and exchange of 6th round picks.

First player is Brandon Marshall, with his the "B" player being Devone Bess(Hartlines stats were worse). Second player is Reggie Bush, with the "B" player being Steve Slaton.

So sure, those of us suggesting that Ireland might get rid of Bush and his $5 million hit are the ones that are fools. O-kay. Sure.
