According to Saban and Chambers, the Falcons were playing the run and giving us the pass.
Logic says, when a defense stacks the LOS and plays run, you pass on them. That is basic football.
However, reality is, teams do this because they know Gus and our passing attack can not consistently beat them. They want us to get away from the run and pass it more. The reality of the situation is also the fact we can run on their 8-9 man fronts. That is an important point.
If a team stacks the LOS and you AREN'T able to run on them, then you are forced to pass on them. In that case, I would understand passing on 3rd and short like we tend to do. However, because we are able to indeed run on their 8 man fronts, I see no reason to get away from it, just because the defense is giving us the pass.
Just because logic says you pass on a over stacked run defense, doesn't mean you get away from the running game in third and short when the reality of the situation is you've been successfully running on them.
Moral of the story, if the run works, keep at it, no matter if they keep over playing the run.
