(On the Miami Dolphins and other teams going after QB Matt Flynn)

Lombardi: I think you better know him. Obviously, [Dolphins head coach] Joe Philbin knows him and knows what to do. I think the most important thing when you take a quarterback is to make sure you know what he can't do. For instance, the Jets had three years of Sanchez. They know what he can't do, so don't let him do that. To me, that's when you get in trouble. [49ers head coach] Jim Harbaugh did a really good job with Alex Smith this year, because he eliminated what he can't do, and he loaded him up on what he could do. ... But if you don't know that, there's a lot of trail and error. So with Matt Flynn, know what he can't do and make sure he doesn't do that. Build the offense around the things that he can do.

(On Flynn's value and if it's a risky investment)

Lombardi: I think it's risky to pay him, but I don't think it's risky to go get him. I think it's risky to pay him $60 million or $20 million over two [years] like Kevin Kolb. I think there's a lot of chances for failure there. But, obviously there's not a lot of quarterbacks available. So you have to figure out a way to solve your problem.

Yeah, it all comes down to how much that the Pack want for Flynn. If it was not for that six TD game he had, I have no doubt that his price would have been enticing, but now I am not sure what his perceived value is. On the plus side, the addition of Philbin as head coach gives us inside knowledge of Flynn's ability and the possibility of a discount if indeed we pursue him.

EDIT: Forgot that Flynn was a FA, but the core of my post still stands i.e it's all contract size dependant.

Ummm he is gonna be a free agent so it wouldnt matter what the pack wants for him... unless they use a fran tag but they will use that on finly first

Whether he is franchised or not, there is going to be a big market for his services. Obviously, Miami and Seattle will likely show some interest. Joe Philbin has coached him for the past four years. Out of all the teams that will be courting him, you have to think that Joe Philbin knows more about him than anyone else. In Seattle, their GM John Schneider was in the front office of the Packers when they drafted Matt Flynn, so he has some familiarity with him. Washington and Cleveland will likely show strong interest in him as well. Cleveland probably moreso than Washington.

IMO, if Joe Philbin says that he thinks he can win a Superbowl with Matt Flynn, you go get him and use that first round pick on another position.

As MDphinfan02 said, He's a FA. They really cannot afford to tag him with their cap situation, and the Finley situation.

I think Brandon Marshall’s Pro Bowl catches will have something to do with acquiring a quarterback too. The Miami Dolphins might end up being the best place to be considering we have the best left tackle in football, no state income tax, a new head coach that was hired to score more points, natural turf field, and a pretty good team to build from at this point. We might be in the position of having Matt and Peyton saying they WANT to come to South beach, and we get to choose.

I'd go with the Flynn route, save 1st round pick for WR...and use a 3rd/4th on a QB...

I'd take Flynn and a guard like Grubbs or Nicks?......then on draft day I'd trade down if posible then draft a RT with our first round pick......and with our 2 picks in round 2 I'd take a TE and a pass rusher. Imagine an o-line with Long-Incognito-Pouncy-Grubbs and 1st round pick at RT then a TE to go with Fasano and Clay.

Ozzy rules!!

Just how much money would it take to sign a 36 year old injured Qb that was making 26 mil a year? I think more than it would a QB who has no track record to speak of. Nobody has mentioned the $ part of signing Manning. We had a HOF QB here a decade ago... but because of his contract we could no longer play the free agent game, and you need to play if you want a ring. Look at what happened in Indy, with arguably one of the best GM's of all time, and no money for defenders.

I would take Flynn and then draft Ryan Tannehill. Double down on that position to increase your odds of hitting on one of them. If both work out the trade value helps future drafts.

Flynn and Moore are exactly the same QB's... I think it would be a waste to try and sign him.
