Arguably the biggest disappointment in the NFL this season, the 1-6 Dolphins are sinking like a rock, with head coach Nick Saban desperately trying to keep his team afloat.
One longtime NFL talent evaluator told PFW, “Nick Saban is Steve Spurrier the second. He’s nothing but a college coach. The league ate him up and is spitting him out.” However, we hear that Saban has too much pride and is making too much money to leave the Dolphins before turning around the fortunes of a proud franchise that has now gone 22 years since its last Super Bowl appearance and 33 years since its last Super Bowl victory. He is currently serving the second year of a five-year, $22 million deal.
The Dolphins’ slide from Super Bowl contender to NFL bottom feeder has been a sharp decline.
From what we’ve heard, here are the biggest reasons why things are unraveling:

The Steelers HAVE to be up there as well as one of the biggest dissappointments.

Poppy****. Appetizers for the Saban-haters.

I like Saban, but I thought that the article was excellent. Poppy****? I think not.

I trust Saban and feel he has done the best he can considering all the crap he has dealt with. The only thing I wasn't happy about was the Mularkey hiring. I promise the fins will be better next year, trust the Sabiah, for next year you Saban haters will be eating your words.

Plenty of food for anti-Sabanites. If there is a rift between Mueller than that is a terrible sign for the franchise. It would not be the first time Mueller had issues with other key dms in an organization (see his exit from the Big Easy in '02).

Yeah Saban & Co. have missed on some player evaluations, everyone does from time to time (Hodge and Pearson I can deal with as examples of this). But, if the coaching style is wearing on guys then that is the most concerning. All points to a blow up in the roster coming up as long as Saban is in control. I don't see Saban leaving but I can agree with the fact there are going to be some folks not in this organization next year for sure.

TFWIW since this article sounds like hearsay and gossip but if you read between the lines if the source knows what they are talking about than it is being implied guys like Mc Mike and Shelton (very deservedly so IMHO) are being singled out behind closed doors. Regardless fingers point and frustration mounts when your losing. This teams just needs a win period...

Oh, please. This article gets both events and details wrong. The entire point is to say "Saban is the new Spurrier" and then tries to justify it, but can't even do that.

Culpepper, mishandled? Yeah, you can say that NOW, but there wasn't a soul who said Culpepper didn't appear ready to go in the preseason.

The article was dead on. How can you argue with it? Everything seems to be pretty fact-based.

If everyone takes off their "Dolphin's hat," and reads this article as an impartial NFL fan, you have to agree with a lot of what PFW had to say.

Saban was a good college coach, but his system doesn't necessarily transfer to success in the NFL. I think if you are going to have "all the players on the same page," and buy into Saban, and his philosophy, then the players have to believe in him. You seem to see a lot of veterans, from Zach to CC on down, getting frustrated with not just losing, but the way things are being run...especially on offense. I think you have to give a coach three years...if he cannot get it done by next year, then I think Wayne H may have to just send Saban on his way. I think our 1-6 record is about 70% the fault of bad decision making regarding player personnel (draft, trades, etc.), and the other 30% or so, on just not playing well with the system we have. We could be 3-4 or maybe even 4-3 with a few changes, but it is what it is right now. :shakeno:

this is pretty much the first FULL YEAR Saban has been in ...hes getting used to it, he's trying different ways to get good players on the team. Next off-season he'll know exactly what to do...who to sign, draft, release, etc.

The first year Saban came in, he had to put up with Wannstedt's mistakes. He had to work with a team that yes, was 9-7 or 10-6, i dont remember....but didnt have all the best players. Its different than Steve Spurrier, because Spurrier was under Daniel Snyder...all the Redskins do is sign big name guys to ridiculous contracts.....Miami doesnt do that. Saban has to work with a bunch of smaller name guys who are older, or unproven rookies. Dont forget the first year Saban was here, 3 of our rookies STARTED.

A dictatorship style of coaching and managing does not fly in the 21st Century NFL. Rookies may accept it because they don't know any better but seasoned veterans will grow sick and tired of it. Also Assistant Coaches will grow weary from it as well. Saban's personality could very well be what eventually makes the team implode.

How many good players are going to want sign with Miami and play for a coach that is known for being a dictator??

Being a dictator only works when you get results...when you have no results to show for your tirades you quickly become labled an idiot by your supporters and your kingdom swiftly comes crashing down around you.

Should be interesting to see how this all pans out...
