Long now 7th best LT by pff. Irelands grand plan is not working

I'm telling you this coaching staff is terrible. The guys that left are all playing better. Sean Smith, Vontae, Jake Long, Kevin Burnett, Dansby, Marshall, Bush are ALL playing better. Philbin, Coyle, and Sherman are a bad coaching trio. And the guys Ireland replaced these players with, are downgrades. Marshall for Egnew and Sims? Vontae Davis for Jamar Taylor? Burnett for Wheeler? McKinnie for Long? It's a nightmare.

Smith and Davis are not putting up any better numbers in their new digs than they did in Miami. KC overpaid Smith - it's not coaching, he's just an average to above average corner. Burnett and Dansby were not earning their keep, especially Dansby. Bush is not putting up better rushing numbers with the Lions than he did in Miami. It's a wash. He's catching more balls for obvious reasons - Megatron draws a lot of attention unless he's playing the Cowboys apparently. With free agency, you lose players. Miami offered Jake Long a deal and he left. Don't put too much stock in PFF ratings. Watch the games. Long is not the same player. Ireland replaced Fasano with Keller who got hurt - tough to forecast that. Gibson was an excellent upgrade on Bess, and now he's hurt. Barring injury Dion Jordan will be a star, no question. The rest of the draft is pretty hard to evaluate after less than half a season. With a little bit better play at crucial times, this team is 5-2. Let the season play out.

For credibility purposes didn't PFF have Clabo in the Top 5 or 10 of RT last year. Look I wanted Long to stay but he chose to leave & his play over the last 2 years showed he wasn't worth breaking the bank for.

Well said on all counts. Very well.

Brandon Gibson, Dimitri Patterson, Anthony Fasano, Kevin Burnett, Reggie Bush, Starks, Richie Incognito, Cam Wake, Matt Moore all stunk and were near out the league when they got here and the list goes on. It goes both ways. Most the guys who left lately were simply miscasts in the new schemes. If you want to blame something or some one for our current struggles blame the choice of Philbin at HC. Not that I want to run Philbin out of town already but we could have picked an HC that fit our team and personnel and not the other way around. If we fail to win at least 4 more games this season then I'll ask for Philbins head on a plate.

People do realize that Miami offered Long similar money and he chose to leave right?

He simply didn't want to be here. could be the team, GM, the coach, ownership, south Florida... anything.

He simply chose St. Louis over the phins.

Let's move on.

It seems that players hat leave Miami more times than not see more success with other teams. It's been this way for years. And in turn, guys who had success elsewhere come here and stink. It's been this way for a decade. This signifies to me it's a coaching issue of some sort.

Wouldn't it be a kick to the gut if Ireland goes somewhere with a good coach and builds a Super Bowl winner? Lol, that would be so Dolphins.

Rick Speilman in Minnesota was a Brett Favre interception away from a Super Bowl after he churned out nothing but hot garbage here

Long's play got worse as he got more injured with the Dolphins. Blaming them for Long doing alright in St. Louis isn't a fair criticism IMO. The other guys mentioned? Brandon Marshall would perform well on any other team so that isn't a surprise. Karlos Dansby? What does him leading the league in tackles this year have to do when he didn't lead the league in tackles as a Dolphin?

I would've kept Reggie Bush. The other guys I was fine with either not re-signing or letting them go.

Bush is not putting up better rushing numbers with the Lions than he did in Miami. .

Bush is on pace to have 1184 yards rushing...compared to 984 yards rushing last season
Bush is on pace to have 71 receptions and 765 yards receiving

Bush has 31 receptions after 7 games. He had a total of 35 all of last season
Bush has 335 receiving yards after 7 games. He had a total of 292 yards all of last season

Your Bush evaluation saying he's a wash couldn't be more wrong

Seeing Lamar Miller actually catching the ball on Sunday made me think "Reggie who?" Both our backs are looking worlds better these past couple of weeks. I was ripping on Miller's hands but he was butter (not butterfingers) on Sunday and if he can do that then any Bush discussion is retarded.

Also, except for maybe missing an assignment (mental error due to inexperience in our system), our blocking seemed to be just fine on Sunday. McKinnie is still, at least, an average NFL LT and is probably even a cut above that, so, at this point, we don't need to worry about Long right now either. Don't get me started on Burnett. He was either hurt or playing like crap a great deal of the time. Did he ever have a pass-defensed? Ever?

Any Bush conversation is retarded?? Bush has been very solid up in Detroit, and Miller has really not made any game changing plays.... Not resigning Bush and banking on 2 unknown players was very retarded if you ask me

Long is still not close to his peak. I watched him carefully last night. As hoops mentioned, he's moving laterally much better than last year. Along with field smarts, that allows him to use positioning to briefly shield his man with a shoulder, just enough to technically do his job. It's actually somewhat similar to what McKinnie is relying on these days in run blocking. Long is hardly exploding off the ball and burying people like the old days. And he's still concerned about getting beat quickly to the outside on the pass drop.

We lack points. Reggie Bush alongside Miller, with both used logically, would equate to more points. Vital points. That's the logic. It made no sense to jettison Reggie and pretend we didn't need those occasional burst plays. Reggie also needs to be accounted for downfield. I've watched him take two defenders with him many times this year with the Lions, opening up other opportunities. We did none of that.

Last night's game was a classic example of a mediocre quarterback who was not used in ideal fashion. The Rams kept relying on empty sets and the Seahawks properly attacked those formations. The Rams owned the energy edge all game but they wasted it. Even on the decisive game ending play, St. Louis somehow brainstormed to go empty on 4th and goal from the 2. I laughed. Now it required a fluke to succeed. Seattle blitzed cleanly off the perimeter and Clemons was forced to do something overmatched quarterbacks very rarely manage...make a flash decision and execute the play. It wasn't close. If the Rams had line up in a standard power set they would have had a much greater likelihood of success, and victory.

yeah the rams win that game yesterday if the qb was worth a hoot...seattle was so dominated by the rams edge rushers and the rams finally did what any team should do against seattle stack 8 in the box especially against those tackles that the rams awful safeties and i mean horrid were not exposed...

clemons those two picks were brutal...and brian shottenheimer isn't coming up with anything to get the ball in tavon austins hands...frankly austin looks like a system wr right now...why do the rams even run brian quick out there??? he's BRUTAL when it comes to getting off coverage...as bad a top of 2nd round pick as there ever will be...

but i tell ya one thing the rams back out of vandy balled out inside the tackles...little ball of butcher knives is what i called him as a prospect and he showed everyone that job should be his...wish he was on our 53 over gillislee...who's style is that of joe mcknight...and i dont mean that in a good way

schotty also wasting that high paid tight end...

Stand by this move. The best teams groom their own offensive linemen and don't sink upwards of 7 million into them. That's what teams like the Rams are here for, good thing they broke the bank and got Long!! Got what 1 or 2 wins for it?
