Long vs Long today!

Yeah, I remember reading something on Monday or so about how Jake wasn't going to miss out on his chance to match up with Chris. The battle of the rook's. Should be good to watch and might even make a few highlights shows.
I hope Jake win's out, but Chris isn't some chump so it should be good.

Chris made a nice move on jake in 1st quarter to sack pennington...
First...no he didn't. Long had one tackle all day, and it was on a busted play> Pennington fumbled the ball and ran opposite to where the play was supposed to go. It just happened to be where Jake had blocked Chris to - away from the intended play. He was not awarded a sack for that play.

Second...from the AP article on the game:

"The head-to-head matchup of the first two picks, both named Long, was probably was a draw. Dolphins tackle Jake Long, the No. 1 overall selection, had a false start on the first play of the game while Rams defensive end Chris Long had one quarterback pressure."

Jake won the matchup . . . but Chris is a nice player. Even if u don't factor in that Jake didn't practice all week and is playing on a real bad, heavily taped up ankle . . . he just negated Chris Long for most of the game. Yea Chris had Jake a little shook early . . . but once Jake settled in . . . it was no contest.

i guess thats jake long earning his pay. and having the determination to take on the challenge with a roll of tape around his ankle.

Great links and comments from sporting news and palm beach post. Thanks for finding these articles

Jake Long did a great job considering he has an ankle injury. Even with a bad ankle he's probably a top 5 offensive tackle in the entire league

sun sentinel today says jake long is going to have to switch from student of smiley, to mentor for a new starter to take smiley's place.
