Longtime GM: "I would not have touched Ochocinco"

b/t i don't know why you guys are so upset that gm said he wouldn't touch him....there's 30 other gms in the league taking out the pats who cut him and no one else decided he was worth it...low contract or not...that's kind of telling if you ask me...

Actually, I don't think Ochocinco gave teams other than Miami much of an opportunity. He wanted to stay in NE IIRC, but once they released him, he made it plain that Miami was his next choice. He had a tryout and was quickly signed within a few days of being released. That he didn't get invitations to try-out for teams other than Miami may very well have been his decision.

he doesn't sign that minimal a contract if he had "opportunities"...he would have at least exhausted them first before he signed pretty much vet minimum with incentives

We got him for nothing (meaning if he does not work out we can throw him back without costing us a lot of money or a wasted draft pick) and so far for his short tenure he has looked better or as good as we have on the roster. Interesting that a player that Bill B and the Pats gave up big money and draft picks for just last year and was named a All Pro Receiver suddenly this year is deemed by a GM as not worthy of being on any roster of the 32 NFL teams. I know he had a bad year and turned 34 but based on his entire career this is a very good gamble to take by the Dolphins. Lets see if this old acorn has anything left before throwing it in the garbage heap.

Amen! Funny how when NE adds him (and pays an ok price to do so), they are scholars and solidify their SB chances. Now that we picked him up for nothing other than a low vet contract and incentives with a huge need at WR, we're idiots??? Let's see, low wage, decent potential, low risk, highly motivated player (hometown and dissed in press by last team) . . . . . . how are dumb on this deal?

It is what it is, a low risk high potential reward signing. If he makes the team so be it, if he gets cut so be it, if he retires so be it. I could careless as long as he catches the damn ball when it is thrown his way and he isn't running around out there like a chicken with its head cut off because he is too stupid to grasp the playbook.

If he understands the offense and makes the roster then he will add talent to a WR core that needs talent.

Personality issues? So the fact that he HAS a personality makes it an issue. Longtime GM- Sounds to me like stuck in his old ways GM.

Here is why I take these "former GM" opinions with a grain of salt. Everyone loved the opinion of Charlie Casserly, simply because he was the GM who chose Mario Williams over Reggie Bush, right?

Wrong. Charlie Casserly no longer had final say. He was Don't let him fool you, though. He sits back and allows the credit to be bestowed on him when in reality, it was Rick Smith who chose Mario Williams. Casserly was no keen on giving up his power, and moved on from the Texans. It was a mutual separation, yes, but as mutual as "You won't technically be a GM anymore" can be.

Yet I am being told what Charlie Casserly thinks. Same guy who drafted a bunch of duds. I have to listen to what Matt Millen thinks... same guy who drafted A WHOLE LOT of duds. I don't really care! There are tons of GMs/teams that I think CURRENTLY make absolutely brain dead decisions

If the guy had testicles that have already dropped, or a conviction of his opinion, especially as presumably as a secure "long term GM," he wouldn't be cowardly hiding behind a cloak of anonymity. So I'm taking that for what it's worth - absolutely nuttin'!

I would have been stoked had we picked him up for nothing after he left cincy. New Englnd might have over paid a little but they had room to do so and a good outside WR is what they were missing, and in the end what cost them a super bowl last season.

after a season in NE where he couldnt even get on the field, well who gives a **** about chad johnson really. Maybe he comes back and does well, maybe the pats are a horribly run team (um, no?) and couldn't use him....we'll see.

I wouldn't have touched him either.

He is a clown. Hopefully he gets it together, makes the team and gets back to being a productive player but it would not surprise me in the very least if he gets cut after Preseason.

The 'LOW-light' clip that the NFL channel was playing with his plays from last year was pathetic. He short armed catches, dropped perfect passes and crumbled at the hint of contact. He is an older guy. Billichik will know exactly how to take him out of the game, Wannsteadt will as well.
