I really hate to think this way, but with today's loss 2010 and the 3 year plan really start to surface. All indications are that 2010 will be a uncapped year, with that said this has to raise some serious concerns. What will the Dolphins approach be? Will the front office step up and sign the play makers we really need?

Bringing in a dominant force like Wilfork in the middle, Merriman or Dummervill on the outside, Boldin, Jackson, or Marshall at WR(1 of them will hit the market) will really elevate this team. A solid draft bringing in a guy like McClain, Berry or Mays in the first round makes a HUGE impact. Plus improving the right side of the oline.

I guess my biggest questions are will we spend? Do we have the mindset and resources to go after play makers on both sides of the ball? We have good?great young talent and mixing in the right Vets/playmakers really makes this team a Superbowl threat!

Interesting thread. My question is, where does all money come from in an uncapped year? Would it come out of Ross's wallet? I ask because I don't know.

Thanks

Well ultimately it comes out of his wallet because the more he spends the more it eats into his profits. The interesting thing is this team is very close and just a couple impact players makes us a force! If we finish out strong and make a SPLASH in free agency, Ross has the potential to make up the spending on players by the sale of luxury boxes. It is no secret we have 40% of our boxes empty every home game. Well a indication of a team making the next level will start selling those boxes. Then the jersey sales, and other gear start to follow.

A few things going into 2009:

Paul Soliai IMO has proven to be ATLEAST a very solid backup NT, which is a great thing to have. I wouldn't mind big Vince at all, but atleast we have a piece with Soliai providing quality depth.

The key is the draft. We gotta get a ILB . . .

We also need a playmaker at either TE/WR or both.

If the Dolphins sign Antonio Bryant and Vince Wilfork . . . . draft McClain, Gresham and Hughes (look I dunno how they are gonna shake down . . . its too early) in the first 3 rounds . . . that would be kind of amazing. Resign Ronnie and Allen comes back healthy we look like:

QB: Henne/White/Thigpen
RB: Ronnie/Ricky/Cobbs/Hilliard
FB: Polite

WR: Bryant/Ginn/Bess/Camarillo/Hartline/Turner
TE: Gresham/Haynos/Nalbone

LT: Long/Gardner
LG: Smiley
C: Grove/Berger
RG: Thomas
RT: Carey/Garner

DE: Langford/Merling
NT: Wilfork/Soliai/Dotson
DE: Starks/McDaniel

WOLB: JP/Wake/Anderson
WILL: McClain/Torbor
MLB: Crowder/Ayodele
SOLB: JT/Hughes/Walden

CB: Davis/W. Allen/Smith/J. Allen
SS: Bell/Culver
FS: Wilson/Clemmons

Something like that . . . no clue what happens to Ginn, Wilson, JP, JT and those guys . . . but our defense would IMO be sured up with that clog at NT and 2 stud lb's drafted with a stud TE (if healthy).

We would be a better team.

With a uncapped year there is no reason to go after a WR like Bryant, when there are better out there. We have done enough sub par free agents like Green, Wilford, etc... We need a big threat that scares the other DC! Besides I live in Tampa Bryant is a head case, his mouth is always going and his attitude stinks!

Who is out there tho?

U think Denver is getting rid of Marshall . . . or the Cowboys with Austin . . . or the Chargers with Jackson . . . I mean I just don't see it.

We know we aren't getting T.O.

U know the NYJ aren't giving up Braylon after trading for him.

AB is right there after that . . . I am just being realistic. We aren't trading for Boldin.

We need to resign Ronnie and get Bryant. He is the only one I am VERY sure won't be back in Tampa.

Yeah I hear you! We have to wait and see how that all plays out. My biggest concern is will we even go after a big play maker if they are out there. My gut tells me that Tuna and Co. won't!

Teams can protect 3 players next year so free agency might be a bust for both teams and players, at least the big time players.

provide link for being able to protect three players. I don't think that is true. I do believe that playoff teams cannot sign a fa unless they lose one at the same money

The uncapped year brings unlimited spending, but also keeps most of the potential unrestricted F/A's from hitting the market unless they have accrued 7 NFL seasons... more than 1/2 of the F/A will NOT hit the open market... also keep in mind that playoff teams CANNOT sign anyone unless they loss a player 1st!!! they will also be alot of salary purging by the owners as well because they can cut or release players WITHOUT any salary cap ramifications!!! so there could be a several underachieving, high priced older vets hitting the market... but that come with a buyer beware sign!!! Miami will benefit, from the uncapped rules if they DON'T make the playoffs... but knowing this F/O they will most probably look at players they are familiar with through the draft process or have played for them before ... Antonio Bryant IMO is a perfect example of this strategy!! lets hope this F/O chooses wisely this years, the picking are limited !!!

sounds like alot of a hassle that wont result in the big changes people are looking for.
