Looking at FA for the all-important backup QB position

I dont like Sanders. Ward would be 3rd IMO behind Caleb and Daniels.

He was 1 half away from taking the Canes to the CFP with the worst defense in football lol
Tbt I guess. Despite our apparent desperation for QB support, let not anoint these two as saviors due to quality of the class. Not saying they don't do well but you get my drift. Use our early picks on the line, sign a competent BA, then draft a project later on.

Yeah, I realize this is the most realistic option although I'm a huge Ward guy. I think he's going to be special.

Grier better go all in and give Tua a competent OL and even if Tua fails next year, at least we'll have an established OL for our '26 QB draft pick

100% but the dude is fragile lol he might not make it through 2 or 3 games. He's only made it through a full season once in his career Sounds like someone else we know :p
Maybe Cousins is our best option. He played well early in the season. I don't know what happened that caused him to play so poorly late in the season. He will be the cheapest vet we could sign, the vets minimum since the Falcons will be paying him his 2025 salary. Unless another team outbids us for his services.

Mariotta is another possibility. I know its a small sample size but he looked good in the second half in week 18 against the Cowboys.

I keep Huntley as a third string then bring in either Fields, Jimmy G, Winston or Marriota for second string.

I do like Davis Mills as well just not sure as a second string. Might bring him in to complete with Huntley for third.

Mills is signed through '25

Get the exact same qb as Tua, just 20 pounds lighter, 1 inch shorter, uninjured and three whole rounds later in Dillon Gabriel.

Thats not a great list.

Jimmy G is another possibility. He has some history with McDaniel and our offense.

Flacco might be a good possibility. He might have one more decent year left in him.

Dalton is who I wanted when we signed Mike White instead.

Cousins and Winston worry me with all the picks they recently threw.

Dobbs looked decent initially with the Vikings last year but then he got progressively worse the more playing time he got which caused him to get benched.

Rodgers isn't coming here to be Tua's backup.

Russ Wilson's future with the Steelers might depend on tomorrows game.

I don't think Fields would be a fit for this offense.

Mariotta and Zach Wilson could be other options.
Right. Plus, a few of these guys will be looking for starting roles. Cousins comes to mind.

Dalton would be a nice upgrade and I think he's realistic about his role as an NFL backup.

I'd still draft a mid round quarterback.

Disclaimer: We certainly could get our backup through the draft but I'd rather go OL(!!)/EDGE/DL/S heavy in this draft and give Tua one more shot with a (hopefully) more competent OL

Huntley had us excited for 1 game against the abysmal Browns and unfortunately showed us who he really is vs the Jets. And I never want to hear Skylar's name spoken again within this organization..or Tim Boyle...or Mike White.

With Tua likely to miss multiple games next year just based on historical realities, let's see who we could sign

I'd also add Kirk Cousins who will be cut and come in super cheap and Aaron Rodgers who the Jets could part ways with

Out of this group, I'd be "interested" in order ( remember, these are backups :p )

1)Rush (will probably be the most expensive of this list?)
2)Flacco (best pure passer, don't know how he'd fare behind a bad OL)
3)Fields (would bring some excitement)
4)Rodgers (he's annoying but in 2 or 3 games, he could be valuable)
5)Cousins (old and slow but could be valuable in 2 or 3 games, cheap)
6)Dalton (see Cousins)
7)Winston (lots of TDs, and yards.. but also lots of INTs)
8)Dobbs (i like his mobility)
9)Wilson (moonball lol.. we're getting desperate at this point)
Where is Mariotta and Mac Jones ?

I strongly doubt if any pocket-type QB would do well in our system.
Honestly, I believe that it is so heavily tailored to Tua's strengths, anticipation and accuracy, that few could run it even remotely well.

You can't really change your system mid-season because you're gonna start with a bunch of undersized, but very quick 'skill' players, and a zone-blocking line... and these guys do what they do.

So... I'm going to bring in the best running QB I can find... I normally would not go this route, but with our offense, I think a waaaY off platform guy gives us our best shot.
