I just wanted to look at the possibility of us making the playoffs whether it be by division or wildcard. I know we play in a league where it's "Any Given Sunday" but I thought we'd look at the loss possibilities of the teams in the playoff mix.
Cinci (7-2) and Indy (9-0) are virtual locks for their divisions with Cinci having a joke for a schedule remaining (OAK, CLEV, DET, @MIN, @SD, KC, NYJ).
SD (6-3) and Den (6-3) play each other this weekend so the loser is in the wildcard race. Teams in Bold are potential losses.
SD (6-3) - @DEN, KC, @CLE, @DAL, CIN, @TEN, WASH
DEN (6-3) - SD, NYG, @KC, @INDY, OAK, @PHI, KC
Pitt (6-3) and Balt (5-4) are 2 and 3 games behind so their more likely to be fighting for a wildcard aswell.
PITT (6-3) - @KC, @BALT, OAK, @CLE, GB, BALT, @MIA
BALT (5-4) - INDY, PITT, @GB, DET, CHIC, @PITT, @OAK
Hou (5-4), Ten (3-6) and Jac (5-4) don't have a chance in hell to catch Indy and luckily for us we play these teams so we hold our chances in our own hands.
HOU (5-4) - TEN, INDY, @JAC, SEA, @STL, @MIA, NE
JAC (5-4) - BUF, @SF, HOU, MIA, INDY, @NE, @CLE
TEN (3-6) - @HOU, ARI, @INDY, STL, MIA, SD, @SEA
So that brings us to the AFC East, I don't really consider the Jets in this because we hold such a big advantage over them and losing two games will take us out of the running for a playoff spot anyways and their not going undefeated...
NYJ (4-5) - @NE, CAR, @BUF, @TB, ATL, @INDY, CINCI
NE (6-3) - NYJ, @NO, @MIA, CAR, @BUF, JAC, @HOU
8 out of the 9 teams fighting for the two wildcard spots we play so we really control our own destiny.
After the SD/DEN game either one has atleast 2 losses on their schedule and possibly 3 which helps us out alot since we don't play Den and have lost to SD. I really think we need SD to win this game because I can see Denver choking huge the rest of the way.
Pittsburgh can help us out huge if they can beat Baltimore twice and a possible loss to Indy Baltimore could be right out of it. That would position Pittsburgh to take one of the Wildcard spots.
Hou/Jac/Ten are all on our schedule and we cannot afford to lose anyone of those games. Hou is the biggest game of the three, the other two teams have alot of potential to lose multiple games. They also all have to play each other still so that helps us out a great deal as well but Ten and Jac both have tough finishes to their schedules. It's also a statement game for ourselves to finally get over the hump we seem to have with Houston.
NE needs to lose 1 game outside of our match up for us to have a chance to still win the division. NO and the Jets are the best possibilities for one of those losses. If the Jet's can pull off the win then NE is in a pickle with having NO and then us next, normally the Pat's never lose two in a row but you have to admitt that's a tough stretch of games.
So it really is left to us if we're gonna make the playoffs, if we win out we're in. Even if we lose the NE game or one other we still control our own destiny and one of our toughest games (Pitts) may clinch early and we could have a walk compared to playing a desparate team at the end of the year. I know nothing is a given but I'd much rather control our own destiny then prey for other teams to lose.
One game at a time starting with Carolina, hopefully our coaching staff has seen the mistakes they've made and will correct them to give us the best chance to win each and every game!
I will atleast throw out a homer prediction of this....
Division Winners - Indy, Cinci, SD, Miami
Wildcard Winners - Pitt, NE
I think NE beats the Jets but losses @NO, @Mia and actually losses 1 more game to finish 10-6.
