Philbin pushed for the ouster of a back-to-back 1000 yard receiver. Our brilliant GM netted 2 3rd round picks. Those picks ended up being 3 picks after a trade down in 2012. Those players?

Michael Egnew
BJ Cunningham
Will Davis

Cunningham never even made the team. Egnew is awful, and who knows with Davis.

The trade also left us without any viable receivers in 2012, and forced us to blow 100 million on Wallace in 2013 - who btw ended up having similar personality and chemistry problems as Marshall.

Meanwhile Marshall has remained one of the top WRs in the league and just received a contract extension.

What an awful trade all around. And if anyone tries to absolve Philbin of this mess, shut it. He was just as culpable as Ireland.

Philbin is just as big of a mess as Ireland was. Also, Marshall seems to fit the type of receiver Tannehill is comfortable with.

Marshall seemed to seal his fate on that pro bowl game where he pretty much dissed our QB and wanted to be reunited with da Bears. This combined with his emotional state pretty much called for his departure. I'm not sure I was happy about it at the time but if we had a capable GM we might have done something with those picks making this thread unthinkable.Meither way, we must move on but he was and still is a beast under the right conditions.

Full disclosure, I was ok with trading Marshall at the time because he was a bit of a head case. But the way everything was handled afterward was inexcusable. Even so, I am not a coach or GM, they should have had a better plan or looked for ways to keep a talent like Marshall on board.

I agree. losing a pro bowler, and having nothing in place to replace him was beyond idiotic. I was fine with sending him to Chicago after his pro bowl comments and the monthly drama. I thought we'd have a drama free locker room after he left. oh the irony.

I think there were two things we should consider about this trade:
1. Marshall had some off the field problems that some thought were going to lead to a suspension. I don't know if Jeff was trying to trade him before this came out.
2. Marshall ALWAYS performed great with Cutler and really wanted to be with him (man-crush). How much was his "issues" due to being unhappy and Jay makes him happy?

Yep, I always thought letting BMarsh go was a bad move, but figured the powers that be knew more.
Then I figured Wallace would be at least as good, if not better then BMarsh.

So far he has not been...let's hope this year he makes that jump!

Damned if you do damned if you don't. Philbin's fault for not taking a chance on a headcase in Marshall. Philbin's fault for not cutting a headcase in Incognito. Philbin's fault for not replacing the headcase Jonathan Martin. We have evidence that Philbin wanted Incog and Martin replaced but zero evidence he wanted the Marshall trade. I know it seems inconceivable but maybe Ireland really was just that bad.

I don't have a problem with the trade, it's what happened with the picks afterward that hurt

You want to explain how Wallace "ended up having similar personality and chemistry problems as Marshall"
