Was beating the Patriots a sign we can compete for the division next season? Or, was it simply a fluke? One game mirage?

It was a fluke. The universe knew that two of my fantasy playoff games revolved around the Brady having an average game, even slightly below average would have been ok, for me to advance into the finals. The universe wasn't having any of that, and you saw the result. I had to watch in agony as 2 of my 3 fantasy teams imploded in the playoffs because the Dolphins decided to play defense like the Ravens.

I’d like more of it next year tho!

It's always a fluke. We seem to beat the patsies once evwry other year or so, then have a massive let down the following week. Us beating the pats isnt indicative of ANYTHING

A fluke IMO, this is the NFL any team can win on any given Sunday.

At the 4-2 mark of the season, Miami was playing good defense. And then played exceptional defense against both Denver and New England, both games were wins. That’s a 6-2 record when Miami’s defense has played well. I sense a trend?

we've beaten the patriots at home plenty of times and then went ahead and **** the bed the following year

it was a total fluke. proved by the performance in both buffalo and KC where they didn't even bother to get off the plane it seems like

Thats the story of every mediocre team, when they play good they win. Unfortunately thats the thing about mediocre teams they can't play consistently good. They have spurts or stretches of good play followed by spurts or stretches of bad play, which evens out to 6-10 or 8-8 season with the occasional 10-6 finish.

I would say that it is mixture of a fluke and sign of things to come, if that is possible. We caught NE at the right time without Gronk in the lineup. We also hit Brady early and often, which is a recipe to keep him from getting comfortable and picking apart the defense. When he started looking to the refs for flags after some of the hits, I knew they were in his head and he continued to struggle. Hopefully the win also gives the younger players on the roster a belief that they can beat them and not fall under the spell that they are unbeatable. Now to get that win in Foxboro - that will tell me that they are turning the corner.

Now add a Healthy Tannehill that will be FAR more consistent then Jeckell & Hyde (more Hyde this year) Cutler, and the Patriot game is far from a fluke.

If the Defense can be consistent, and Tannehill can come back, then for those calling the Pats game a fluke, they will be seeing a lot more of those fluke games next year.

Did anybody actually watch that game? The play calls, formations, and player rotations were totally different than anything Gase called before or since.

Gase even made Cutler look competent.

Not a fluke......we get up for the Patriots at home....history has proven that. What it isn't, is a predictor of things to come. Brady has a losing record in Miami and that hasn't really helped us overall.....

I'd also add that Gronk not playing was a significant game changer. He is an impact player and we are terrible at defending Tight Ends.....so add that into the mix.
