Looks like Mike Nolan is on his way Out...

yes considering part of the reason vilma left the jets for the saints was because he wasnt as good in the jets new 3-4 at the time. He fits the 4-3, among other. Franklin could play NT for them, they wouldnt have to completely start over.

No one should kid themselves. Nolan is a quality coordinator. This is a loss, especially if we were planning to bring in an unproven OC.

Overrated? One of the best defensive coordinators in the league is now overrated? Please. It's not his fault half of his defense decided to take the offseason off due to a lockout and came to camp out of shape.

And now you guy wants defense to close out games? RIGHT. You guys haven't been watching the rest of the league have you? It's the offense that closes out games these days. All defenses can do now with the new rules and the league being a passing league is slow them down a bit.

Nolan is a solid coordinator and I wish we could keep him but I think he goes to the Saints.

I would much rather retain Boles as the DC then Nolan.

I'm thinking the next head coach will pick his coordinators, that's why Nolan and Daboll will be gone. You don't bring in a new coach and tell him he has to keep the current coordinators. Why would you want to, we sucked, clean slate coming soon, get ready.

Bowles would be fine as DC

so lets get this straight. mike nolan, an all world, respected dc is expendable because "he didnt close out games" but the guy who worked under him, the guy who coached the WEEKEST part of our defense [todd bowles] is a FINE CHOICE?

my god people. this todd bowles crap is getting deep. the guy has done NOTHING of note other than being drug around the leauge by bill parcells. our db's are constantly out of position and have bad technique traits. thats coaching!! so many times i look at games and see so many flaws in the way the db's are being used, how their lined up. sean smith hasnt improved one bit and vontae is playing off his god given talent. his game is BEGGING for a real db coach to bring it all out. bowles has FAILED! if we dont sack the qb, 8 out of 10 times its a completion.

yeah. todd bowles is the answer.

now PERRY FEWELL, now there is a legit candidate to move up to h/c. his units he has coached have been inovative and eye opening. bring him in as h/c or bring him in as dc with assistant head coach title and top salary. this is the kind of move that saves a dying franchise, not a ho-hum, i got big friends db coach.

come on raiders!!! eat up the hype! hire todd bowles AT ONCE!!! PUHLEEEEEEEZZZZZZ!!!!!

todd bowles...end of story. wont miss nolan. bowles started to make it real.

More importantly how do you NOT double team the 49ers only real receiving threat and Alex Smith's favorite target Vernon Davis, and even worse he did not learn after Davis burnt them twice, on that huge play down the sideline, then to win the game how do you not double the biggest most physical "jump ball" guy they have?

How do we go 4 years and still not able to cover ANY tight end????

reported by Ben Volin of the PBP "Nolan's technically under contract with Dolphins, but it's a renewable option thing that he can get out of. He worked with Mike Smith in BAL"

If its a renewable option, then Nolan is not under contract because the option was not exercised. So Nolan is not "technically under contract" as Volin reports. Nolan is a FA coach.

Thank you!!!! Couldn't get to the end of thread fast enough to type this myself. What has he every done where he should be considered for our DC? Was it because our inept FO made him interim coach? Nope..that's not good enough. While I won't miss Nolan too much, he is light years a better option that Bowles.

Fewell should be considered and maybe a guy like Keith Butler (Steelers LB coach) for DC, I think are far better choices assuming Bowles/Nolan is moving on.

I like Nolan and he is a damn good dc. We have a tendency to overrate people while they are here and bash when they are not. Capers was beloved then reviled.
