Free-agent quarterback J.P. Losman has agreed to terms with the Raiders, NFL Network’s Michael Lombardi has confirmed.

Bruce Gradkowski, who had started four games for the Raiders this season, missed the second half of his team’s 34-13 loss to the Washington Redskins with a torn medial collateral ligament in his left knee and a partially torn MCL in his right knee. A second opinion Tuesday confirmed that result. On Monday, Raiders coach Tom Cable said that wasn’t quite ready to elevate former No. 1 overall draft pick JaMarcus Russell back into the starting role, and that he wouldn’t rule out third-stringer Charlie Frye as an option if Gradkowski couldn’t play. A decision on the team’s starting quarterback for Week 15 is expected Wednesday.

Gradkowski has not yet been placed on injured reserve and is holding out some hope of returning for the season finale despite two knee injuries, a league source told NFL Network’s Jason La Canfora. In his brief time as starter, Gradkowski helped pull off upsets of the AFC North-leading Bengals and the defending Super Bowl champion Steelers.

La Canfora reported that the Colts – who lost backup quarterback Jim Sorgi for the season — had contacted Losman last week, but the club has been unable to add another quarterback to due to an injured-depleted roster with a number of other holes to fill. Rookie Curtis Painter is currently listed as the team’s backup quarterback.

The Giants also had interest in Losman, a league source told La Canfora.

Losman, a former first-round pick by the Bills, just completed a title-winning season with the Las Vegas Locomotives in the inaugural year of the UFL.

Gradkowski screwed his knee up pretty bad. Thing is though, even on two gimpy knees, Gradkowski is a better QB than anything the Raiders have.

Is Jeff Garcia a free agent still?

I think so, but I don't see Garcia in the Silver & Black again. He got cut before the season even started. He's been bouncing around since the 49ers, with the exception of his two year stint in TB, where after one season he got demoted to 3rd string on the depth chart.

Losman fits Al's philosophy. He's got the arm to heave it downfield to speedy receivers. His mental skills are what killed him, as well as his short-passing game. We'll see if he got those rectified under Fassell.
