A season of positive developments for the New Jersey Nets is sure to be overshadowed by late-game failures in their Eastern Conference semifinal series loss to Miami.

``It's very disappointing,'' forward Richard Jefferson said after the Heat sent the Nets home with a 106-105 victory in Game 5 Tuesday night in Miami. ``They were the better team. They made plays when they needed to. I've never been part of a series where we've been so close.''

Some might say the Nets were a few shots or defensive stops away from playing evenly with the Heat. Others could say that the Nets' inability to make plays in the fourth quarter shows how wide the gap remains between them and teams like Miami and Detroit.
It wasn't hard to notice a pattern to the Nets' losses.

In its final three losses, New Jersey had numerous opportunities to take control in the final quarter. In each case, the Heat collectively seized the moment.
That mastery was reflected in the following statistic: of the 36 minutes spanning the fourth quarters of games 3, 4 and 5, the Nets held the lead for just over four minutes, all in Game 3 - but spent about 17 minutes within a shot of tying the game or going ahead.

If they could keep Vince and get KG they would be a force in the east.

yah some of the big 3 would be gone prolly carter but if i was them id trade kidd he is getting old anyway, then draft farmar

Carter isn't going anywhere. The big 3 won't be touched. We should pick up a free agent Center/pf and 1 or 2 shooters in free agency.

Vince Carter is the most overrated player in the league

Yeah, and SI already said the Timberwolves said NO to trading KG to the Nets.

The nets need a legit PF. Whether it be J o neal, kg, whoever. Someone who can bang down low and rebound. they also need a legit bench player or 2. depth is abig issue cause their starters have to play so many mins.

I can see all those non-existant free agent big men just flocking to New Jersey to play for the vet min just for a chance to compete for the atlantic division crown. That NJ team on the court is the same team that we will see next year, with the only additions being a draft pick and whatever garbage they can pick up with their exceptions.

Why not talk about how good the Heat are? Instead of whinning about the suckiness of the Nets.

Nah we have Nenad Krystic. He really showed up this year except for game 5 where he blew it with 1 point but he's still young and will grow up to be very good. The Nets need a true C. Collins does nothing offensivily and is a decent defender. The need a decent C and then some other low post guys off the bench as well as 1-2 shooters.

Because the title of the thread is what's wrong with the Nets. Feel free to make use of the "Official Miami Heat March to the Grave" thread.

The Nets need a true center...but then so does 2/3 of the NBA. The focus for next year must be on upgrading the bench. Actually, I think Collins complements Kristic reasonably well. For one, any center on the Nets is going to see the ball precious little, so offensive skills aren't hugely important outside of setting a decent screen. Collins is capable enough defensively to let Kristic spend more time at the offensive end.

First, they need a pesky guard who can come off the bench and guard a point or a 2 and make himself a nuisance. Jason Kidd's inexplicable spot on the all-defensive team notwithstanding, he's winding down and has lost a step on defense. Someone to come in, play 10-15 minutes between the two guard spots and create havoc for the opposing offense would be a big get. If that person can run the point at all, it would be a bonus.

Second, a versatile forward who can give them points from a couple different spots would be big. Whether it's a 4/5 like an Antonio McDyess or a 3/4 like Shareef Abdur-Rahim, they need that frontcourt bench scoring. A "small" lineup of Kristic, Abdur-Rahim (or a similar player), Jefferson, Carter and Kidd would be a pain to match up against.

Third, they need Antoine Wright to develop. Wright did nothing this year, but he's got plenty of talent, and they need a guy to step in if/when Carter or Jefferson gets hurt.

just because the nets are in the playoffs does not mean we can't talk about them? It's called the offseason
