It only took a few minutes on a conference call to know what type of player the Miami Dolphins were getting when they signed free-agent safety Louis Delmas.

I asked Delmas Monday night to describe his game. His response was intriguing.

Delmas
"It's like turning on the TV and watching a car race, and that one dude who leads the race goes ahead and runs into that brick wall full speed and actually breaks that brick wall," Delmas responded. "That's what I'm here for."

Delmas is a big hitter. He's an enforcer. In his words, "I like to bang."

Which is why he likes the injury report too...he NEEDS to stay healthy along with hit hard!!

I like it. The big thing is staying healthy. If he does I think it's an upgrade. Clemons is too inconsistent. I know everyone all of the sudden loves Clemons but I like this move a lot.

He started all 16 games last year. I'm rooting for this guys.

Ozzy rules!!

How many games did he miss last year?

Sent from my Nexus 7 FHD

Last year was the first time in his five year career to do that...you wouldn't look at his whole career, you would just base your decision on an abnormality??? Odds are he will miss some time...history proves that...I hope he continues his healthy streak no doubt, but if he focuses on just hitting hard that's how mistakes happen.

DEFENSIVE
Tackles Interceptions
Year Team G Comb Total Ast Sck SFTY PDef Int TDs Yds Avg Lng
2013 Detroit Lions 16 64 48 16 2.0 -- 8 3 0 44 14.7 42
2012 Detroit Lions 8 38 28 10 0.0 -- 2 1 0 0 0.0 0
2011 Detroit Lions 11 51 36 15 0.0 -- 5 -- -- -- 0.0 --
2010 Detroit Lions 15 84 62 22 2.0 -- 1 -- -- -- 0.0 --
2009 Detroit Lions 15 94 65 29 1.0 1 8 2 1 130 65.0 101T
TOTAL 65 331 239 92 5.0 1 24 6 1 174 -- 101

That's 15 games missed in 5 years, 1 short of a full season...hence the one year prove it deal...

Care to jump on my assessment again?

I dont like the use of the word enforcer

in todays nfl, you say that and every hard hit will be a penalty/fine. Doesnt mean dont do it, but dont draw attention to it if you do.

Jones and Delmas covering the middle of the field. Good luck Amendola coming across the middle. Gonna get waxed!

Should make for an interesting season. We could get burned deep a bit more, but Jones and Delmas will be cracking some skulls. Maybe Grimes can stay with his WR all the way down the field. So are they the new Bash Brothers ?

The thing I like the most that he will bring to our defense is a little bit of attitude and leadership. He's not the best safety in the league, but he is certainly not, by any means, the worst. He is an upgrade if he can stay healthy. He's a vocal guy who helps fire up his teammates - something that was lacking last season. What we need also is someone with an attitude on offense. The team in general this past season was entirely too stoic. We lacked emotion on both sides of the ball. This team needs someone like him. Just stay healthy and we have a pretty solid safety group. Next up: shore up the CB position.

Clemons was solid. Not great, not bad.

Never made big plays nor gave up big ones.

I don't know much about Delmas nor have I ever given Lion's secondary much credit but if he can catch balls than he's an upgrade over Clemons.

The problem with this statement is we don't need him to be an enforcer. We already have one of those type safeties in Jones. We need Delmas to be a beast as a coverage safety.
