Working as a blocker in the wildcat we got to see Lousaka Polite make a lot of good blocks but with more plays coming from more conventional formations now we're really getting to see how great of a blocker this guy is.

The guys covering the Panthers game were just as impressed as I was. They singled out a great block he made early in the game and after that I just started watching him whenever Ricky was at run depth and man is he fun to watch. He made Naile Diggs night hell. I counted 3 pancakes of Diggs alone.

I know this isn't the most interesting thread but I just had to give a shout out to this guy. He blocks, on 3rd and short he's a lock to get the 1st down, and he's the biggest reason we have the highest 3rd down conversion rate in the league. Way to be Lousaka, GO PHINS!!!

I love Polite but I think we have gotten away from using him as a short yardage guy... it seems like we don't end up in so many third downs... maybe its just a higher level of offensive play?

That guy is very physical but I just wonder how long he will be able to keep that up. Hopefully he can give us a good 3-4 years.

He's a ****in beast, don't worry about him gettin carries, I'm sure he doesn't care about running the ball, the man just wants to punish every man who stands in his way, if he were bigger I'm sure he would have loved to play some
O-Line, but he's short, so he's takin' ******* down while playin fullback, everytime I see him he's putting someone on their ***!

Earlier in the year we were so good at 3rd and short because we were getting so many yards running on 1st down.. Miami led the league in rushing yards on 1st down plays.

That's why our 3rd down conversion rate was high, because we were getting so many yards on first down that it eventually created a lot of 3rd and shorts.

Any team can have a high conversion rate when they are consistently in 3rd and 1 and 3rd and 2 situations.

But recently we have seen more 3rd and longs because we are not getting those chunks of yardage on 1st down.

Recently we are seeing a lot more 3rd and 8's, 3rd and 6's, 3rd and 7's, 3rd and 10+ etc. Now we have converted some of those at a decent pace I suppose, but that's why you are seeing less 3rd and short situations.

All of Sean Payton, Bill Belichick and Rex Ryan mentioned how important it was to stop Miami on 1st down during their press conferences on game week. Because that's what led to so many manageable 3rd downs for Miami, and why Miami had (still has) a high 3rd down conversion rate... and all that time of possession advantage..

It all stemmed from good gains on 1st down.

If you notice, we have been in more 3rd and longs recently, because teams are playing us differently on 1st down making it harder for us there. Sean Payton of New Orleans made it the #1 point in practices, to stop Miami on first down, because that was the most important down for them to dictate what they want to do - that is exactly what Payton said.

Since then, teams have copied New Orleans in that regard. Both the Jets and the Pats pretty much copied and pasted the Saints defensive gameplan in that game against us. With great effort and a lot of run blitzing on 1st downs.
