"You know what bothers me? All these ballplayers, they all want to play for contenders. That's bull****. You play where you're playing and do the best you can and let things work out."

-Red Auerbach

agreed. If i played for a team my whole career and we started losing i would feel like its my obligation to get the team winning again not to bail out on everyone who expects me to get us back on our feet

The problem with that statement is that in team sports there is a real high turnover so its not there is as much levelof comradery as in previous times.

you certainly are right about that one. these days it's all about making as much money as possible...whether it's with the team who drafted you and helped make you who you are,or with another team...it's all about making the most $$$$!!!!

true the players are no differant from the owners or coaches, like parcells came for free.

Ya i sorta miss those days of having faithful ness to the team and to the players, but that is longgggggggggggggg gone. At least Zach didnt go to the dark side

Yeah and another Amen! I guess if Zach had to be somewhere, guess I'm glad its the Cowboys....but its still gonna be hard seeing him playing for someone else when the season starts, soooo thankful its not the pats or jets, or bills, or colts.
I wonder how much video footage of the Cowboys HBO special hard knocks will include Zach

I dont even think that statement applies anymore though.

Most guys nowadays just play where they can get paid, sign elsewhere for an extra million dollars when they're already guaranteed to make more money than they'll ever need. When Red coached his Celtic teams they were a dynasty because they stayed together, the same core of players, that was just how it worked. They all wanted to keep on winning. Free Agency changed that, it broke up dynasty's and changed the mindset of athletes. Players will forgo contending for a title to make some extra cash.....I dont think Bob Cousy or Bill Russell would do that.

Agreed. But who the heck is Red Auerbach?

Zach Thomas would have retired a Dolphin with no rings, and I think the man would have never complained once, he would just be disapointed that he didn't bring a ring to SF.

Some of you miss the point or the meaning of the quote.

It's not about comadery necissarily or about money, or about playing with the same guys for 15 years.

It's about doing what you can for the team you are with. Going above and beyond for that team.

Who cares if he wants to play for a contender. Right now he isn't on one. So rather then complaining about it and doing whatever he can to get his way. He should be there DOING EVERYTHING he can to try and make this a winning club again.

Sure sure, it's not his job to do that. Of course the FO made this team horrible.

Well NEWS FLASH if Taylor really wanted to play for a winner then he would do what he can to make this team a winning team. To not be there helping rookies and teammates out he isn't MAKING AN EFFORT to make this a winning team. He ins't going that extra mile.

Which simply means he really doesn't care about winning. If he did his actions would be different.

Zach was cut so I can't blame him but I am starting to feel insulted by JT wanting to go to a good team. Who can be so sure Dallas or any other team is winning the NFC next year? Maybe its just crap to distract the fans and media from the rebuilding of the team, I hope so. These guys are paid to play but fans like us actually pay to see these games (Direct TV, or at the game, or even just wasting your time watching local TV) when the team is 1-15. Buying the stupid jerseys and other Dolphin related stuff. Then we waste our free time in the off season on sites like this. We don't go jump on the Dallas or Giants boards and start routing for them. JT paid his dues on the field but he also made more money then many of us could dream of. If JT thinks this team sucks then I think JT sucks.

I agree with the concept that players are way too apt to pick up and run to a 'better situation' and I miss the days when players in all sports would stay with a team through thick and thin. But those days are gone, and it didn't happen yesterday.

Players aren't loyal, coaches aren't loyal, and teams dang sure aren't loyal.

How many times have you heard someone say, "let him go win a ring somewhere"? I don't like it when people say that, but it's the way it is.

The players that stay with a team for their entire career are and will be few and far between.
