LOVE Tyler Warren

It would be a very Grier thing to do to draft a TE and say thats how hes going to help our O line.

There is absolutely no reason to draft a TE with a top 15 pick. Since 2017 a grand total of 8 TEs have been drafted in the 1st round. You have names like Bowers, Pitts, Hockenson and Engram on that list. That means every other TE you see on the field was not a 1st round pick. Above average starting TEs have been drafted every single year day 2 and day 3 since McDaniel took over.

Warren isn’t currently listed as a top 15 prospect on any site. He is actually behind the TE from Michigan, Loveland, on most. His projection is currently late 1st to mid 2nd.

You don’t turn a team around drafting non-impact positions 13th overall. WRs, OTs, DT, EDGE and CBs are all making $25M+ per year on new contracts. Locking down an elite player at one of these positions for 5 years is how you save cap space. Obviously the most valuable position to draft would be QB, but I don’t think that is on the table.

I have no particular issue with Warren as a prospect, but never at 13. If we trade back into the 20s, sure. If he falls to late day 1 or early day 2 and we want to trade up, sure. However, if we stay at 13 that pick has to be starting OL/DL.

I would love to trade back into the 20s, pick up an extra 2nd, then draft Warren with our 1st, and use one of our 2nds to draft Dart. Then use the other 2nd round pick to draft the best available OL player available that can play IOL.

a HUGE part of the 49ers offensive success through the years has been Kittle.

Warren was the entire Penn State Offense. He even ran the wildcat on their short yardage.

He would help both the run game and passing game. He would be a short yard specialist on third/forth and short.

Complete difference maker

While many think it’s too high for Warren at 13 I think you have to look at the team picking at 13 and what they need overall from this prospect.

The value is built into the needs and what the players has to offer.

He also brings intangibles to the team which has draft slot value.

With Warren we also have to think about just the future in a box in case this regime fails next year, what player do we want for our future

Drafting a TE that high seems a little too rich for me but I will wait to see what the post FA roster looks like and then it will depend on what the board looks like a #13.

I love Warren and have no doubt he is going to be a Pro Bowl caliber TE but how much impact can a TE have is the question.Van a TE really be worth #13?

I don't know what the OL options will look like at #13 but that would be my goal if possible, but I am nor reaching for a Top 25-40 guy for need's sake.Move back and take Ol, maybe double up there.

I am forced to say what I always say, that the best option will likely be to trade down 5-10 spots and add more ammo while then taking a guy more fitting to the Draft slot.

If I sit at #13 then I am going conditional BPA where any position excepting QB/RB/LB is in play.

OL is the most obvious need but the Secondary is in need of some investment and I am not counting on Phillips and Chubb, one of whom might be in their last year in Miami while the other is coming of the Klay Thompson Special(Achilles/ACL)so Edge should be in play as well.A Nic Scourton probably not even make it to #13 so we would be looking at Jack Sawyer/Shemar Stewart/James Pearce as R1 options and there are quite a few interesting R2 pass rushers as well.

The late 1st(after a trade down)looks to be a good spot for the 2nd group of CB's to come off the board.

I love Xavier Watts (S from ND)he might sneak into R1, Starks is a terrific S prospect but I don't like taking a S that high. There have been a few hits with highly drafted S but then you end up having to extend them for big money and I don't think too many teams are glad they did that.Maybe Pitt and LAC and Balt will certainly pay Hamilton. On the other hand I think Maimi is going to let Holland get wildly overpaid by someone else so S will be a legit need.

There are some good Day 2 options at S so I would not go for Starks at #13.

Warren would fill a lot of needs we need with his blocking and pass catching at the TE position.
Additionally he would be someone we could spread out wide at the goal line that Tua could actually throw a jump ball instead of some timing route to Tyreek.
I'd be good if that was the pick in the first round.

A TE is never worth it at 13. Never. Kelce has been one of the best TEs in the NFL since his 2nd season in 2014. He had 4 seasons above 865 yards (2 of them above 1,038 yards) before KC had Mahomes. The difference maker for their team is having the best QB in the NFL since 2018. Kelce would be good regardless of where he played; but he was never carrying a team.

In simplest terms the most valuable players are: QB > guys who stop QBs > guys who protect QBs > fancy toys for QBs > everyone else. When you pick top 15 you need to get one of the first three category guys.

Funny how some of the no's are backup by fix the oline, when his position is critical in outside zone blocking! And a 1st round pick doesn't fix your oline, multiple FA's and multiple picks do. This one be a pick that gets us there!
