Were the reporters who covered Saban at LSU as happy as the media down here in Miami, when he left LSU?

Did the local media hate him as much as the local media hated Saban down here?

Yes, the LSU media hated his guts. They knew a great coach was leaving, but they were happy they didn't have to put up with him anymore.

Hell, even the New Orleans media who didn't have to talk to Saban nearly as much as the Baton Rouge media did were happy he left.

Everyone thought he was a prick.

This thread makes me wonder if the new coach is prepared for the cold reception he may well get from the fans who are wary of embracing a coach like we did Saban just two years ago. I hope that doesn't cause whoever it is problems...

I remember many LSU people coming here and wishing us well with him, with nothing but good things to say.

I was in LA doing relief work ater Katrina, and, they were raiseing HELL about the new coach.....

LSU is LSU.

My wife is interested in one college game a year.

LSU -v- Florida.

We watched it on a TV in a hotel room....DRIVEING rainstorm in Houston....We ate Chinese food and watched LSU beat Florida....

Ut's like our honeymoon game every year.

My wife just watched LSU on TVand was like......"Those people are crazy"...

I'd hope the Louisiana sports media can move on....They've got a playoff team on thier hands.

Did you see what I responded?

All of us in Louisiana and LSU know he's a good coach. That's where all the good things you heard of came from.

But that wasn't the question of the post. The question is whether the media was happy he left. And the answer is a huge yes.

Everyone thought he was a jerk.

Like a bunch of message board ******s make a difference.

<----------6'1 300 of a 'tardo right here.

Miami is a broad based fan organization. I'm a nationwide contractor, and, occasionally I'll see a guy in Dolphin gear. We many not be legion, but, we are rabid. I feel any good coach would want to come to a place that is hungry for honor and, the right way of doing buisness.

I think it's going to be a bigger phenomenon than just the message board people. Any fan with it enough to know that Saban left by the time we get a new coach will probably be pissed and may not be all that receptive. It's less a matter of having an influence on how desirable the job is and more an issue of how the new guy's first weeks go.

I'll take your word for it.

I remember LSU fans bitching about the "TEMPO" of LSU practices.......

Then that first loss came...

Heh..

Oh...The whole point of the post I hijacked?

I dunno...I suppose people in LA could answer it better......Much like yourself. I'll take your word on it.

You guys sure did miss him though.

I think it's not going to be a big deal at all...

But then, I supported Saban.....And Wanny...

So my judgement is clearly in error

Les Miles is the only coach in LSU history to have back-to-back 11 win seasons.

We just crushed Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl 41-14.

Ok... I KNOW you are NOT telling me people weren't upset with Miles
in the first portion of his tenure....

That, and, LSU beating FL got me a fierce ...erm..relationship with a VERY
excited redhead that was newly then, and, now, still, my wife :D

Geaux GoonBoss :D

Congrats on smashing the richboys into dust.

No, LSU fans were extremely skeptical about Les because they had no idea who he was. They just knew he was not Nick Saban.

Then, when LSU gave up a 21-point lead to Tennessee at home after Katrina, they blamed it all on him. (undeservedly so)

But now most LSU fans love him because of the thrashing we've given our last two opponents in bowl games and the massive influx of talent he's recruited each year.

HA!

I'm hammered and I still remember that. Yep! TN. OMG, there were GRANDMOTHERS calling the one station out of Baton Rouge that WASN'T 24/7 Katrinawhiners.

"Hello....I'm Blanche...I'm 57 years old and, I think Les Miles needs to get a red hot poker up his rear."

Your peeps took that one hard.

EDIT: In fairness, Baton Rouge stations were driving on. It was the NOLA stations that were combined and, tiresome.

When I was in Waveland, MS, we were listening to stations in Tampa to escape the whineing.

College coach perhaps, he did nothing to impress as a coach here.

Of course, in college, recruiting is the key thing, and maybe in the end, that is little Nikki's biggest strength.

The media treated him coldly because he treated them and everyone else like they were 12 years old. He talked down to people with no respect. He was an egomaniac. Treat someone the way you would want them to treat you.:fire:
