LSU's Tiger Rag: Dolphins offer Saban 5 Mil a year

how are vet players making less than saban gonna react? if it happens to be true.

I don't see any negative reaction.
Why should anyone on the team think they are more important than the guy who is going to run the show????

Well, he'd be walking away from a $3 million price tag at LSU...

You're gonna have to pay to get a guy like Saban, and a franchise like this cannot afford to be cheap at all right now. We have a great history, especially with Don Shula. However, we're just coming out of a terrible Era. Do whatever you can to get the guy you want, and in this case...I believe that guy is Nick Saban.

You are right and this is an encouraging sign from Wayne H. IF this is true.
Some people on hear and some of the guys on talk radio have mentioned that Wayne may be getting a little cheap in his willingness to put money behind building this franchise. I haven't seen it but someone mentioned that he refuses to put up money for signing bonuses like other owners are willing to.

If he's willing to dish out top $$ for a coach I think you can put that thought process to rest.

Wayne, call the league office and see if we lose draft picks besisides a fine. Then pull the trigger. You sold another business last month, you can well afford this!

Relax guys. The talks of an "offer" don't mean the Dolphins are in any trouble with the league. I talk to my boss a couple of weeks ago about a job that I could be applying for if a certain guy leaves, he tells me, yeah, he'd definitely consider me to take the job, and if he took me, he'd pay me, oh, say X amount of dollars.

Does that mean I have the job? No, they will still go through the interview process and weigh the candidates. But the price they pay for the services depends on the candidate. Some guy could interview and blow them away with his resume and everything, and say that he also has a couple of other offers on the table, so they would know they have to pay him more than they would pay say, me, if they give the job to me.

So their choices are

Give X amount of money and Y amount of control to say, Nick Saban.

Give W amount of money and Z amount of control to, say, Romeo Crennell.

Etc.

The $5 million figure, correct me if i'm wrong but isn't that about the amount the Browns gave Butch Davis, and the amount the Skins gave Steve Spurrier? $5 million and total control didn't come out of nowhere. If the phins mentioned pay and amount of control they'd give, that doesn't mean they get slapped with a fine, because the decision process is still ongoing.

Thank you. I was reading all these stupid posts about how it can't be true and was thinking exactly what you said. An offer isn't official (and violates no rules) just b/c parameters are discussed.

And you are definately right that Spurrier got 5 mil per. I don't remember what Davis got.

I didnt read through the whole thread, only the original, but does anyone else think this is complete BS..... I mean NFL rules state we MUST interview a minority coach. Now 500k + fine might not be much to Wayne, but heck I would interview someone else and save myself 500K plus and just pick up the lunch tab... whats that gonna cost him, 32.50 at some cafe in Miami?

Also, giving Saban GM/HC say is stupid IMO and at 5 million a season, WOW.

Saban would be a moron to turn this down and Wayne might be overpaying and giving him toooo much control...

Well "final say" means you still have a GM to do personnel moves, doesn it?

Josh McNeal, the #1 center prospect in the country is very concerned with the situation in LSU. He was thought to be very solid on LSU but now Tennessee and Mississippi State are back in the picture.

Right, but they'll call him a "personell man", like Pioli....he'll do all the scouting and contracts and administrative duties while Saban will simply say, yes or no.

Kinda like Dave and Rick before this season.....:foundout:
