I think if miami drafts a lineman, its going to be LT only. We have C, RG, and RT adn possibly toledo at LG b/c he was a 4th rounder, prob get some 6th and 7th rounder guys for depth and competition but day 1 to 4th round i doubt it. only a LT would be possible.

Btw, do we have a 5th this year? i dont think we gained any via trade considering the JH trade costed us that 5th.

The Dolphins need a true Center also...moving Hadnot back to guard would be far better for the Dolphins. I would not be surprised if the Dolphins take O-line with the first two picks.

i highly doubt it. HIGHLY. plus hadnot is not a LG.

Although I'd be bored because we don't get those big name guys, I'd be happy with that. Stayley/Brown and Kalil would be pretty nice. Very similar to what the Jets did with Brick and Mangold. The OL, like the QB position, has been ignored WAY too long. We need to start working on those 2 spots.

Hadnot played RG for us for six games in 2004 and then played LG for two games where Jeno James was gone. He also played RG for his first three seasons at Houston. In fact, I feel guard is his more natural position. Granted its not LG, but I think a switch to being a full time guard with the availability to back up at center may be in Rex's future. If Satele is available at some point in this draft at a position of value to us I think we will snag him. He seems to fit the mold of what Cam likes in an o-line and I don't think the "building the o-line from the inside out" comment was made for no reason. Besides we just plain out need more bodies right now...we aren't carrying enough at any rate. All in all I expect about three picks to be burned on the o-line (1G,1C, 1T). We need to get younger and more athletic along the line.

you still need more than one of each for depth...

MrTree, Hadnot was a 6th rd pick by the Phins in 04. At any rate, I agree we need at least a C and LT with this draft.

I know, I just read the part where you had him playing his first 3 years at Hou. That was my comment, then realized you were talking about college, sorry.

85% of all our effective running plays last year were to the right. Carey was moved around during his first few years and has finally settled @ right tackle. Shelton was a below average left tackle and he seems to have settled in at right guard. Hadnot does not impress me. He started out at right guard but moved to center because McKinney was a bust and we had no one else. We were a poor team running up the gut. Jeno James was playing on one leg last year so he's gone. Kendall Jacox took over for him and was mediocre so he's gone. Shelton, as mentioned before, was unimpressive at left tackle and moved to right guard, Macintosh was inserted back in at Left tackle as an act of desperation and now he's gone. We're incredibly optimistic about Toledo even though he hasn't proven he can survive a training camp without getting hurt and was injury prone in college. Everyone loves Joe's potential but you can't says he's an automatic because some guys are just injury prone. Alabi is real "pie-in-the-sky". He's shown nothing, but once again, has athletic potential. So realisticially, we need to draft an OT, OG, & C. to address these deficiencies.

Of course it's a long way to go for training camp, but at present, the current Dolphin roster for minicamp shows us with 8 offensive lineman. (one center, 2 guards, and 5 tackles; they count Shelton as a tackle): 8 guys for 5 spots.
On the other hand we have 11 defensive lineman for 4 spots.

Which is why I continue to criticize the Draft maniacs that want us to draft defesive lineman.

If you give Cam / Mueller the extreme benefit of the doubt with the purging of the roster and very little replacement, you would like to think they've gone over the roster with a "fine tooth comb" approach and weeded out every old, overpriced, overrated player we've had. Evidently they think very highly of the 11 DLineman we still have.

Exactly! Although I think Hadnot has potential...I just don't think he's a natural center. He plays with power and a great aggressive streak at guard. We need lots of bodies on the o-line and I think we finally have a staff in place that takes the line seriously. Upgrading the line and solidifying the qb position would get us most of the way home in patching up this team.

I can definitely see why they thought so well of the d-line too...it was our best unit last year.

Yeah I agree.... offensive line & quarterback play as well as defensive backs were the areas most atrocious during the first five games last season. We should have won all those games and we could have if we controlled the clock running the ball better, fewer sacks of course, and had good consistent secondary play. When Shelton went to guard, things got so much better on offense with much more balance.

I'm not going to say our defensive backfield doesn't need work (because it definitely does) but I would rather fix the o-line and qb first. Mainly because our offense has been atrocious while our defense has been very good. Of course our defense has only been so good because our line play has often allowed us to mask our coverage deficincies. So as soon as the sacks stop coming we could get toasted. I wouldn't mind maybe picking up a corner in the draft, but I would rather see us continue to overhaul the offense this year, and then get some more youth on D next.

I agree with the night and day difference of our O when we moved Shelton to RG. He and Carey really seemed to generate a push and made us look at least partially competant at moving the ball.
