Luck? A look at #1 overall picks in the last 15 years or so

I'm kinda sick of these posts. In what draft position should we pick a QB then? #57? Add up the number of good QBs that were drafted at #57 and I guarantee you it will be lower than #1. The higher you draft a QB, the higher the probability they will be good. Nobody has disproven that in the 100s of posts on the subject. Do a plot of QB quality vs draft position... I guarantee you the regression line will point up and to the right.

And who cares if he doesn't want to play for us? Trade him to the highest bidder for 10 other players. Fact remains, having the overall pick in this years draft is much more valuable than almost all previous drafts.

Eh. Its a silly post riddled with flaws and depending on arbitrary and non quantitative assumptions. It shows no causation or any hard data supporting his point.

matt moore looked like a more polished qb than sanchez monday night :lol2:

1998 is the only year on that list that matters...that is the last time a QB came out that was rated as highly as Luck.

Nice job refuting what i ascertain. I really hope you dont hold yourself as actually being competant in debating because that would be even more laughable. If you are congnizant that you are nothing more than merely a troll trying to get a rise out of dolphin fans at least than you would be honest with yourself.

Your noted above response is on par with saying "I know you are but what am I"

Well done

You are so far beneath I feel bad laughing. You can call names, call me a troll, do wahtever you want but you have no idea what you are talking about.

What an asinine comment- "New Yorkers are notorious for vastly and I mean vastly overrating their players. Want any proof, frequent a Knicks forum. For years they would vastly overrate and defend people like isiah Thomas, Marbury, eddie curry, Tim Thomas, balkman, Richardson, Crawford, Nate Robinson, frye among others. "

and you attack me? There have been some idiotic posts but this has to be right up there w/ the worst of them.

That is why Miami would not take Sanchez, they already have Henne, no reason to go backwards in skill level.

There's not a knowledgeable football fan alive who would even consider taking Henne before Sanchez.

Yet, football experts, who are paid to know the difference would. Niether have really done enough to impress anyone, but at least Henne continues to show if in the right system, with good talent, he can make a difference.

Sanchez has had better receivers, has had a better running game behind him, has had a more consistant defense to protect what little he does, and still Sanchez is has be more inconsitant then Henne.

If Miami get Luck, they will have a great Backup in Henne, who has proven he can win games on his own with little help from the defense or a running game. If Miami had Sanchez, they would be in big trouble if the running game is not working, or the defense is not stopping anyone.

No football expert would choose Henne over Sanchez/

Henne continues to show what exactly? I hear every offseason how Miami has more talent than the Jets yet Sanchez and the Jets continue to be much better.

Our run games were similar last year and yours has been better this year.

Henne is not coming back as a backup though he will be a good backup in this league- he's just not a good starter which sanchez is.

Our run game isn't working at all this year and we are 3-3, your run game was great 2 years ago and you were 7-9, your run game was ok last year and you were 7-9. Our run game was ok last year and we were 11-5 back in the title game.

2 years ago Miami's run game was ranked 4th, and you called that great. Last year the running game was ranked 21, and you called that ok. You then called the Jets run game just ok last year, but they were ranked #4.

21 ranked rushing offense for Miami equals ok.
4th Ranked rushing offense for NYJ equals ok.

4th ranked rushing offense for Miami equals great.

I get that you are trying to defend Sanchez, but would your analysis be the same if we were debating Miami's rushing attack compared to the Jets?

I look at YPC not rankings. Your YPC was slightly below ours last year, our total included WC plays and reverses which made our ranking much higher than it should have been.

Ricky/Ronnie 2010: 359 carries, 1407 yds, 3.92 YPC, 7 TDs
LT/Greene 2010: 404 carries, 1680 yds, 4.16 YPC, 8 TDs

Is there a huge gap in the production?

WC plays and reverses don't count? Production is production. You can't pick and choose which players you want to take an average from. The Dolphins running game averaged 3.7 in 10, while the Jets averaged 4.4. I wouldn't call both of those ok.

Miami averaged 4.4 in 09 which you called great, but that is the same average as the Jets last year which you called ok.

how do WC plays help a QBs play action game? of course trick plays don't count.

In '09 Ricky/Ronnie averaged 4.56 YPC, that's pretty damn good. I don't care what some WR averaged on a trick play. It's about the top RBs.

Don't know why all this jests babble is mucking up this thread. I'm sure there's a perfectly good sewer where conversations about dirty and the jests belongs.

8 of 11 of those QBs taken are starting in this league. The only QB prospect from that list as highly rated as Luck turned out to be one of the greatest of all-time. Not sure what point was trying to be made. Unless you just wanted us to all laugh at Cleveland for blowing consecutive number 1's.
