Luck is still a Junior...

If there is a QB who would be the consensus #1 overall pick and is dumb to stay in college, I don't really want him. That didn't work out so well for Matt Leinart.

He stayed to get his degree from Stanford. What the hell? So much fuss is made when players leave early, yet when one stays for his senior (scholastically) season.

Did you see Barkley this weekend? The kid is the real deal and would be the consensus #1 in any almost every year. Luck is just a once in a generation type player who's a better prospect than he is but I'd be just as pumped if we got Barkley.

Yes. I did see Barkley against ASU. I was not impressed. I also saw him a couple of weeks ago. He seems to be a "game manager", but I don't see the hype. He reminds me of Leinhart...

I wasn't referring to this year, I'm saying if he (for some ridiculous reason) stayed this year.

A guy who is gonna sign a 20 million dollar contract can always get a degree, but staying in school means he is only going to potentially decrease his value, like Leinart did.

Oh alright just a misinterpretation. Let's hug it out.

Andrew Luck is a redshirt Junior who promised his mother he would get a degree. So he returned to Stanford to complete that degree which he will obtain this year. He has no reason to stay at Stanford unless he really wants a Heisman and doesn't get it this year.

Weeden is like 28 or something. No thanks.

Who cares about a degree if you can go become an instant millionare. He could always go get it later on in life.

Luck entered this year as a Junior but will still be graduating. If you have less than 90 credits you are considered a junior, but he can get the 120 credits required to graduate within 1 year. He will definitely be in the draft next year.

Luck isn't exactly strapped for cash. His dad has been a lawyer, GM for NFL Europe teams, president of a soccer team, an executive for the NFL, ran for congress, was elected Chief Executive Officer of the Houston Sports Authority and is now the AD for West Virginia. Not to mention he DID have a 4 year career as an NFL QB.

you give anything to get the first pick if you dont have it, luck is ten winning seasons bottom line

Uhm, personal goals? He made a promise to his mother and he's fulfilling that. How in the hell can anyone complain about that? Sounds like something we could use on this team: character and dedication.

Plus, getting a degree from Stanford is a fantastic accomplishment and not to mention sets him up with a nice job whenever his NFL career ends.

Think about this hypothetically: what if Luck fails and ends up being the next Ryan Leaf (again, I said hypothetically)? He at least has a nice degree to fall back on.

Having a nice degree to fall back on is something the guys who are a)lower draft picks and b)not smart enough to get back into college need to worry about. A guy who is first overall, if he is smart (which Luck is supposed to be), would be set for life the moment he signs his contract.

Again, personal goals. He wanted a degree. There are plenty of high pick players who returned another year even after being eligible. I think it should be applauded that Luck has many goals. You just have to understand the mindset. He could have gone to WVU (his dad's alma mater) and many others, but he chose Stanford. I think that proves that football isn't his only goal in life.

And just to be clear: I am not saying that Andrew Luck requires a nice degree to fall back on, but by extension he *will* have a nice degree to fall back on.

He made a promise to his mother. I have no problems with him keeping his promise. In fact, I applaud it.

Either way, the Luck talk needs to slow down. We'd have to lose a LOT of damn games, and this team can still win games when they don't shoot themselves in the foot. Don't be surprised if we manage 5 or 6.

Wouldn't that be awesone!!
