He has been an absolute monster at the combine so far. 6'7 306 with plenty of room for bulk. He ran a 4.89 in addition to posting the fastest shuttle and three cone times. Again let me remind you he is 6'7 306!

That means he can put on 20 lbs and still run a five flat and have good lateral speed. This guy could be our next RT or G depending where we want to put him. He also is going to be a late round selection because he was injured for 4 games this year. He isn't injury prone either that was his first time missing time.

I really think he is going to be drafted by us. He seems like a Parcells guy.

Don't get all wrapped up in a workout warrior. There are far too many guys who just steamroll through the combine and do great things when working out in shorts and a t-shirt and then never do a damn thing in the NFL.

He was good in college too. He started at both left and right tackle and the only games he missed were this season.

Seems more athletically gifted than a workout warrior. I wonder if he ever played any defense?

Did you watch him run? The guy looked better as far as technique and smoothness than most of the TE's.

Ok, he is an athletically gifted workout warrior. Most every workout warrior is athletically gifted, which is why they workout so well.
His body of work at Nebraska does not come close to matching his combine numbers and if they did he would have been a consensus 1st team All American. He wasn't even all conference honorable mention as a senior, although he was a a junior while missing 4 games, the same number missed in 2008. He had health or injury issues and wasn't able to stay healthy enough to start regularly this past season.
If I were drafting a Nebraska OL, I'd rather take Matt Slauson. Murtha is worth a late pick, but I'd temper any enthusiasm until I saw that he can stay on the field and produce like he can work out.

Theres a reason why he is talked about how he is and guys like Andre Smith are talked about like they are... These combines are fun to watch but way too much is put into em imo. Put game film on and gauge what kind of player he is off those, not off a guy running a track time and throwing up 225lbs, something none of these guys will be doing on sundays.

Draft players for what they do on the football field not by a 40 yard dash time(for an olineman)Murtha hasn't done diddly his WHOLE career so what in Gods name is going to make him change.Did someone turn on a switch inside his head?

I see it every year when youngsters get a heart on about certain players because of the combine. You can see that thinking right here on these forums. All I ask is to use the players BODY OF WORK,his 3 or 4 years of on the field performance and use the combine as a small tool to verify if the player you want, who has proved himself OVER THE YEARS is the right choice for your team.

Speaking of Nebraska OL, can anyone tell me what they think of Mike Smith? I didn't catch many Nebraska games and can't really find any scouting reports on him. He still has a couple of years left but I know he started at LT this season. I ask because he is my cousin and I haven't been able to follow it that much.

One thing is for sure. The report that he WAS NOT injury prone was false.

I checked a couple of profiles and he has been injured a lot.

The Dolphins have really been burned bad by injured OL. Where is Joe Toledo now? This last year wasn't the first time we had to find OL from off the street. I for one am really sick of it.

The one thing that eased the pain of Carey's huge contract for me was the fact that he has been extremely durable.

No, he is going to get coached up somewhere and probably play a few years of quality ball but I would rather find a guy who can stay on the feild and have a career.
