Four-time Cy Young Award winner Greg Maddux was traded from the Chicago Cubs to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday for infielder Cesar Izturis.

The 327-game winner, who was in his second stint with the Cubs, waived his no-trade clause to join the Dodgers, agent Scott Boras said.

Maddux started the season 5-0, but the 40-year-old right-hander has won only four games since. He is 9-11 with a 4.69 ERA in 22 starts.
Maddux began his career with the Cubs before leaving after the 1992 season as a free agent to join the Atlanta Braves. He spent 11 years with Atlanta before rejoining the Cubs in 2004.

Hopefully he can pitch like has has recently and vault the Dodgers back into contention.

Izzy was a great glove but terrible bat

plus you've gotta view the trade as Izzy and 2 minor leaguers for Maddox and Lugo

Maddox becomes the 5 starter and Lugo is a huge offensive upgrade

Maddox is a prime example of a guy who doesn't know when it is time to call it quits and take up golf full time. Greg, retire now, get your hall of fame bust in a few years. You don't have it anymore Greg.

pointless. the dodgers did nothing but get older and didnt really get better. Lugo will give a slight offensive spark but what the dodgers needed was Miguel Tejada or Soriano not Julio Lugo. they needed someone to mash not more smallball.

you give up a golden glove MLB player for someone whos over the hill and cant pitch anymore. His last 2 win his era was over 5. And for Lugo the dodger get a shortstop after the sent off Izzy because they had no where to play him. Where is Lugo gonna play when kent comes back.:refuse:

I was thinking the same thing.

Well the Dodgers are going to put Kent through waivers if he ever comes back, hoping a team will take him. Then they wouldn't have a problem. If Kent did come back and can't be traded than Lugo could move to 3rd or depending on Nomar's health, Kent could slide over and play 1st for them. Kent might even be able to play 3rd.

Kent would be a disaster at 3b. Hes always had terrible accuracy on his throws. the mets tried this with him when they acquired him for cone back in the early 90's and thats why they dealt him; they felt he had no position on d.
