Magic interested in getting Deron Williams

More Magic news.

The Magic could package some combination of their first-round pick, their two second-rounders (Nos. 41 and 44) and a player to move up in the draft. Orlando might trade Jameer Nelson, Hedo Turkoglu or DeShawn Stevenson. It was through a draft-night trade last year that the Magic were able to snag Nelson when he surprisingly fell to the 20th pick.

Also, Orlando's Tony Battie, Kelvin Cato and Doug Christie could be attractive to teams looking to clear salary-cap room. All are entering the final year of their contracts.

Orlando's interest in Williams could signal an end to Steve Francis' days as the team's point guard. He spent time last season at point guard and shooting guard, but new coach Brian Hill said he has not decided where Francis will play next season.

New Orleans (fourth pick), Charlotte (fifth) and Utah (sixth) also need a point guard. Williams, 20, averaged 12.5 points and 6.8 assists as a junior while leading Illinois to the NCAA title game.

The Magic have one more workout scheduled Thursday, highlighted by a second session with forward Danny Granger. The New Mexico product projects as a small forward but can play spot duty at power forward because of his physical nature.

It wouldn't get them Deron Williams, but Nelson and the 11 for Utah's 6 and something else (maybe the 28 pick?) would make sense for both teams. 6 would be a good spot to grab Granger.
