This from a guy called OMAGFAN1 from another board.

Wow, what a day/night! Here's a little info for you guys.

The Magic did have Fran Vazquez high on their list. Before the Utah trade, Utah was projected to take him. If they didn't take him, Toronto apparently wanted him. New York was interested in him, too. However, the thought was Channing Frye was above all of them (and he was on the Magic list too). It was believed whoever took Frye, the next team available would take Vazquez (either Toronto or New York). The Magic were surprised when he was on the board. They took what they felt was best player available, as they said they would. The Magic have seen him play 8 times, the last time being in April. Fran didn't work out for any team, but did hold a 2 day individual workout in New York over the weekend. Look for a press conference tomorrow at 4pm to introduce the draft picks. His English isn't great right now, but if you know anything about Euro players, they pick up languages VERY quickly, so this won't be an issue. Same thing happened last year with Varajao.

The Magic's #38 pick Travis Diener is credited with really helping develop Dwayne Wade's game. He's a true pass first PG who plays all out, all the time. He's not a Luke Ridnour, probably like a more athletic Dan Dickau. Magic had many calls to move this pick, but they wanted to keep this pick all along (unless they got an offer they couldn't refuse).

The Magic's #44 pick Martynas Andriuskevicius has been compared to Ilgauskas. Don't buy the hype. He's 19 and at least a couple years away from playing. If teams thought he was the next Ilgauskas he would have been a Top 10 pick. Seriously, he's almost 7'3" and you can't teach height. The issue here is a personnel one. He's staying in America regardless, because he doesn't want to go back. So, sending him overseas for 2 or 3 years to develop wasn't an option. Not sure what Cleveland plans to do with him, but he does have a buyout provision also, which wouldn't be bad if he could be kept overseas. Cleveland was one of the teams who wanted #38, but the Magic told them #44 may be available. Martynas' draft rights were traded to Cleveland for a 2006 2nd rounder. This pick will be the Milwaukee 2nd rounder sent to Cleveland in exchange for Jiri Welsch from earlier today.

The Phoenix #57 pick Marcin Gortat was drafted for the Magic in return for future considerations (most likely cash). Gortat will more than likely stay overseas for at least next year to further develop his game.

All 3 Magic picks will be playing in the summer league in Las Vegas in July (along with Jameer Nelson). Look for the Magic to invite to summer cam other players who weren't drafted tonight.

Next up.....free agency.

Should be an interesting summer! Stay tuned!

Well considering there draft was a question to me cause they drafted two

PF's and they already have dwight howard in that slot

So i guess this is what there gonna do though

PG Jameer Nelson
SG Steve Francis
SF Fran Vazquez
PF Dwight Howard
C Martynas Anduiskevicus

If they can get there rookies to play good then they could be tough

Nope. Andieskveicas;dlkjraweptr4awoitrhawe4rjgf isn't even with them anymore.

Vazquez is not a 3. He'd get ripped to shreds by the more athletic 3's of the NBA.
...And how did you forget about Grant Hill??? He says he feels great this offseason, even better than last year. And he only missed 13 games last year.

To start off, their lineup will look like this:

C: Kelvin Cato/Tony Battie/Andrew Declerq
PF: Dwight Howard
SF: Grant Hill
SG: Steve Francis
PG: Jameer Nelson

As Vazquez develops and starts to contribute more, you will see more of this:

C: Dwight Howard
PF: Fran Vazquez
SF: Grant Hill
SG: Steve Francis
PG: Jameer Nelson

And I really like Orlando's bench too. (Hedo Turkoglu, Pat Garrity, Doug Christie, Travis Diener)

Did you even read the post? They traded the rights to Anduiskevicus to Cleveland. Also Vazquez is a PF/C not a SF and even if he was he would'nt start over Grant Hill.

You may see Vazquez or Howard at center sooner then you think considering Cato is still recovering from shoulder surgery or might be traded. Doug Christie is gone imo.

Impetuous youth. :D

I don't think Fran is going to start right away. I think he is in the rotation and comes off the bench at first.

Then, when he develops more and learns more, he'll see significant time at the 4 spot.

I have no idea, none, why they passed on Danny Granger. Grant Hill's calling is as a Bill Walton-esque Sixth Man. One time star accepts that injuries will make him merely an excellent 30 minute per game player and contributes that way. What's not to like?

I accept that you can't have too much depth up front, but I think Howard is miscast as a center. If he beefs up and fills the role, fine, but I think his explosion is one of his best traits. Howard is the franchise, let him play where he's happiest and most comfortable, say I. Now, if they're thinking of beefing up Vazquez to play the middle, that's a little different. Still, Granger was the way to go.

Dwight will play the majority at the 4.

But hey, the 5 worked for Amare Stoudemire. He and Dwight Howard are similar talents.

True, but Stoudemire got away with it because the pace of Western Conf. basketball is faster, with less post play and banging. And he b!#ched about it most of the year, to the point that they picked up Kurt Thomas to handle the banging.

Leave Howard at the 4, and don't mess with a good...no, don't mess with a GREAT thing. Tell Vazquez to hit the weight room, pronto.

i happen to agree. Granger was who i was hoping for. i mean i love grant, and am very happy his last surgury worked out. you never know what could happen, and to have a good 3 to play behind him would of been perfect. also, he could start and us move hill to the 2 and trade Stevie. i dunno.

thats a good idea, if Orlando gets a 1st for trading Francis and then we move Grant to SG and put Vazquez at SF, they still need a center

I agree 100%, I was just saying what I think might happen.

I'd like to see Vazquez bulk up and make it as a 5.
