Cason was doing an interview ealier on NFL Radio and seemed to be a very mature young player. I really hope he makes it to the 32nd pick. I think him lined up with W. Allen would be a nice start to fixing the secondary

Stewart Mandel released his list of over and underrated players yesterday on SI.com. He takes a tack that I really like in putting more stock in the college careers of these players than workout numbers. A good read overall and he has favorable things to say about Groves and Cason.

damn.. he NAILED Matt Ryan: enhances his credibility on other players IMO and makes me feel more comfortable with Henne.. Where's Wheeler projected to go?

I completely agree with the point of the article and especially agree with his analysis on the Linebackers. Would Vernon Gholston be generating such high considerations if he did not look like the 2nd coming of Lee Haney when he pulls his shirt off? Granted the guy is a freak of an athlete but how about consistently making plays on the field where it counts.

Phillip Wheeler on the other hand is one of my favorite linebackers in this years draft. I have been watching the guy for the last 3 years and all he does is make impact play after impact play. Excellent blitzer, good size 6-2 245, great instincts and is a definite thumper.

Underrated: Antoine Cason, Arizona
Four-year starter. Three-time All Pac-10 honoree. Fifteen career interceptions, including three touchdowns. And a signature, nationally televised performance last season against then second-ranked Oregon in which he scored on both a 42-yard interception return and a 56-yard punt return. I'm not sure you could ask for a more solid, consistent four-year career by a major-conference cornerback (Aqib Talib turned pro early), yet he's only considered a second-rounder, well behind a guy from Troy (Leodis McKelvin) and a guy from Tennessee State (Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie). What more did the guy need to do?

What more does the guy have to do? When it comes to consistent production year after year Cason is the best CB in this draft IMO.

Similar to something I heard from some guru this week about Gholston. "On film, he's a first round prospect. Based on his workouts, he's a top-15 guy. When he takes his shirt off, he's a top 5 pick."

I have seen him anywhere from late second to early third range in mocks. I really like him though, since I don't see any way we can get Cason and Lofton, I would really like Wheeler (thanks to Nick13 for tipping me off to him three weeks ago, good call).

@joey - I completely agree with you man, we would be lucky to have Cason on our team.

A little off topic, but could you guys imagine getting Groves at 32, Cason at 57 (Kiper and McShay have him available at that point believe it or not), and Wheeler at 64 (playing ILB). Not bad for our defense . . . and this is coming from a Lofton homer. lol.

Underrated: Chad Henne, Michigan

I feel like Henne isn't getting his proper due because of what appears to be a disappointing senior season. He threw for 1,938 yards. What people don't realize is Henne played the second half of the season with so much pain in his shoulder he couldn't practice during the week. The trainers would shoot him up before the games.

The real Henne is the guy who threw for 373 yards against Florida in the Capital One Bowl, the guy who got overshadowed by John David Booty in the 2007 Rose Bowl but himself completed one NFL-caliber throw after another. He's a good, solid player with a fantastic arm, and he was a four-year starter at Michigan, a place that's seen its share of future pro QBs. If I had to take a first-round QB, he would be it.

That makes me feel a little better about Chad Henne. Still don't like him in the first or early second, though.

I want Groves at 32 if we can get him. Our D will be sick with that guy.

I like Lofton too but most people think Parcells would not take him due to his height. Kids a thumper though.

I would not know what to do with myself if the draft fell that way for us. Jake Long, Groves @ 32, Cason @ 57, Wheeler with our 3rd round pick. Throw in Greco or Schuenig with our 4th and there would be no way I could finish watching the last few rounds.

I would be at the Hospital having my stomach pumped from Alcohol poisoning.

You must have read some of my posts because mentioning Schuening is a good way to win me over! Best pure guard in the draft IMO, 50 consecutive starts too.

And Vaark, I just took a quick look over Scott Wright's (nfldraftcountdown) mock from last week and he did not have Wheeler in the first three rounds. I was mistaken it would seem.

Schuenig is one of my favorite guards in the draft this year too, he did not have the measurables at the combine (eyeball test) most scouts fawn over but he shows it on the field where it counts.

Plus the guy has a nasty demeanor on the field same as Big Jake, give me those two guys for our left side and I am one happy camper. :beer1:

I really hope we get Groves. From that article
Underrated: Quentin Groves, Auburn

Groves was limited by injuries at times last season, but when he was at his best, he was definitely one of those guys who can take over a game just by the pressure he puts on opposing quarterbacks. He did just that in the Tigers' early season upset at Florida, helping limit Heisman winner Tim Tebow to mostly short completions. The year before, when fully healthy, he notched 9.5 sacks. The only defensive end I'd rank above him is Chris Long, and if, as projected, Groves slips into the second round, someone is going to get themselves an absolute steal.
Here's a analysis of Groves from nfl.com
Compares To: DeMARCUS WARE-Dallas...Much like the Chargers' Shawne Merriman and Ware, Groves has that explosive quickness and outstanding suddenness to wreak havoc in the backfield. He is a perfect fit for a hybrid outside linebacker/rush end position in a3-4 defensive scheme and like Merriman and Ware, he could thrive if allowed to play in a stand-up position. He was having a banner senior campaign before dislocating several toes, but with his balance and body control, along with lateral movement, he should have no problems adjusting to playing off the line. With so much emphasis on pressuring the pocket and getting to the quarterback in the NFL, there is no other player in this draft that can match Groves' pass rushing ability.

anywhere from early 2nd to early 4th. Wheeler is a good player though.

Aside from Pollack not being overrated (how a guy not expected to be drafted until the 3rd at the highest is overrated, no idea) he's got a good list.

As for why Balmer should be overrated: 1 productive season. Not that I wouldn't take him in round 2, but that does make him overrated.

Good read and I agree with most of the article, especially Cason who I think is the best CB in the draft and would love to get at 2a. and would be thrilled with at 2b. I still say he goes late in round 1 though to a team like GB or NYG.
