Mando Article Discuss Jordan's Use

There's a reason he went #3 overall. He's definitely a pawn you can move all over the place. Ridiculously athletic considering he did pass coverage in college and he was also all county (or all state...don't remember) at TE/WR in high school for whatever that's worth.

yeah he went that high cause his physical gifts are off the charts...guys that size shouldn't be that fluid...hips and cod of a top pick corner at 6 ft 6 plus and 260...you gotta be kidding me...his instincts aren't bad either...

if that pass rush arsenal and get off the ball develops SCARY

once wake shows to be healthy if we don't see more intuitive versatility in how jordan is used other than against tackles off the edge then i think coyle deserves some scrutiny...

right now he's a little hand cuffed with wake doing nothing

Vernon's emergence is whats keeping Jordan off the field imo. Even without Vernon, the 20-25 snaps per game seems about right for Jordan considering that's what he played in college, and he also missed a lot of training camp with injury. I have no problem with how they are bringing him along.

He played a lower amount of snaps in college largely in part to the team he played on, not because he can't hack it.

Oregon trounced so many opponents, often with the game out of hand by half time that the defensive starters wouldn't play much in the 3rd or at all in the 4th quarters....

Ridiculous. You play the best players no matter what they do in practice. He is clearly better than anyone playing DE on the team right now including wake (he's still not 100%). If he plays more snaps we at least have a better shot at winning our last 3.

See. This is what frustrates me about Philbin. Saying he needs to earn by getting it done in practice and while he is in the building is just stupid. Sounds so high schoolish to me. If he was a complete dog so be it, but why is he active.

The conversation should be "what does the player...in this case Jordan...do best and how do we use those strengths?"

Philbin thinks he is committed, but he is hard-headed and quickly losing his coaching opportunity.

These are the traits that bothered me last summer on Knocks that I am seeing this year.

Hayden, agree with you Dude. Philbin does not "get it" he is coaching himself out of this g
ig. Jordan makes plays, he should be out there. It was like that BS when he benched Reggie for fumbling. I bet he wishes he had Reggie right now

Fair question? if Jim Harbaugh coached this team, with this talent, I bet one of my nuts they are 5-2 right now. Maybe 6-1, only loss New Orleans.

When we drafted Jordan, I assumed he would play as a 4-3 SOLB on base downs and put his hand in the dirt on passing situations - a poor-man's Von Miller. I also like him best as a 3-4 OLB.

This is one of the best articles I've read from Armando.

Yea I understand how to read. Not sure why you didn't consider that Vernon has 5 sacks, and Jordan has 1. Vernon has played well against the run too.

Again, it's hard to compare the raw numbers without including the number of times the player has been on the field.

Also hard to compare how often vernon goes against top tackles, (joe thomas), and how many snaps jordon goes against top tackles.

Jordan played 18 snaps last game, 10 vs the run, 6 on the rush, and TWO in coverage.

OV and Shelby have been playing well. and Solder is a VG LT. Jordan cannot play vs the run this year, not anywhere near strong enough. That being said, you just have to get him on the field more because he makes plays, which helps you to win games.

When you blanket a Gronk on one play, your reward should not be to have no chance of doing it again, and the same with making plays on the pass rush.

Philbin played rokies in RT and Martin in a "trial by fire" but is treating Jordan as if he is still injured. Now, maybe he is not yet recovered, which would change my opinion. However, if he is, he is not seeing the field enough.

Even though Jordan doesn't have the sacks, remember he has forced the turnovers, in key situations too. How many turnovers has Jordan forced compared to Vernon? The huge Pick 6 that got us back into the game against Baltimore and the Pick that sealed the game against Atlanta first come to mind for me. Both were due to Jordan.
