Whatever you think of Brandon Marshal.l or the trade Tuesday to Chicago, or the current wide receiver market, or what is left of that market, or the amount of wide receiver talent in the draft, there is no denying one thing:
The Dolphins have wide receiver issues now.
And in this case we can define the word issues as problems.
To recap, the Dolphins rid themselves of Marshall pretty much because he got in trouble again and the team is obviously tired of his foolishness. Fine. But in getting rid of the foolishness the Dolphins also unfortunately had to part with their best WR.
And because the timing of the foolishness came just before the start of free agency, the Dolphins either didn't have time to plan or simply didn't plan well enough for replacing Marshall. So now the Dolphins are now diminished with few prospects of getting, um, minished.
(No, minished isn't a word. I mean the Dolphins have little chance of doing the opposite of what getting diminished is. Whatever. Work with me, here!)
Miami's first 2012 free agency move might have helped the team's chemistry and helped in keeping the team off the police blotter. But it also hindered in that it subtracted rather than added talent.
The Dolphins pulled the trigger on Marshall but by that time other No. 1 WRs were already spoken for because Vincent Jackson was already in Tampa talking to the Bucs, Pierre Garcon was already locked into Washington and other WRs were set up with visits elsewhere.
Fact is even Laurent Robinson, who the Dolphins view as an avenue for increasing the club's wide receiver talent, was already booked to Jacksonville. And although Robinson appreciates the attention from Miami and isn't eliminating Miami, he was not about to cancel his earlier Jacksonville plans. The way I understand the dynamic here is Robinson is only coming to visit the Dolphins if something goes wrong in Jacksonville.

Nothing positive out Mando's paper...when was the last time he said something positive about this team?!?!?!

We have problems everywhere. Our only playmaker is Reggie Bush, and he only has one season under his belt as that title. Still unproven.

We need to get Manningham here, give Braylon Edwards a tryout, something! Just something needs to be done.

Who gives a ****? List me the positive things about this team. Go ahead, I want 10 positives that isn't ancient history.

Marshall being dealt was the right move. You cannot saddle a new head coach or QB with him. Add multiple weapons with different talents...btw, opening day is about 6 months away.

no joke we got wr problems...and laurent robinson isn't gonna fix em...nor is mario manningham

The big argument for most on this same board for Peyton to choose Miami over the Broncos was we had more talent. Now they trade BM and all of a sudden we have no talent.....get real people.

hey, piere garcon a #1? lol yeah right. Vincent Jackson slipping in recent years. WR's are overblown. Just find fast guys with work ethic and character. Thats what Philbin will want. Its day two of FA Mando. suck it.

so manning would have chosen us when this broke out? seriously? think outside a box would you?

Great post!!! Vincent Jackson is not the same and got way overpaid by the Bucs... I'm sure they FO has a plan in place... We just don't know yet what it is...

I wouldn't mind picking up either one of them (manningham or robinson) as long as we dont terribly overpay and then draft somebody in the 2nd. I think Alshon Jefferey, or Sanu will be available when we pick at that point. I'd ultimately like to trade down with the Bengals and hope for Malcolm Floyd or Hill and pick up their 2nd rounder to fill another hole. This situation is getting laughable though. I bet nobody pictured this all happening 2 days ago.

A good QB will go a long way into at least alleviating some of our WR concerns. Isn’t one of the advantages of a west coast style offense that it minimizes the need for a true #1 and emphasizes spreading the ball around more? We definitely could use a receiver or two and I think that will get addressed via free agency and the draft.

We've been addressing WR via the draft for the last decade (maybe longer). Heck, we even tried trading several times for one, and only once did a high potential guy work out (and that was the one we got rid of).

The fact of the matter is, this organization has to be up there with Jacksonville as the worst at finding receivers in the league.

Actually if we get Flynn and go west coast O Bess and Hartline are fine. Just add a free agent and a high draft pick and we'll be good. In the WCO they spread the ball around and you don't have an alpha reciever. Bush should thrive in it also.
