Mando: Personnel men gather at Shrine game and talk Fins

but at the end of the day what happens if there is a perfect candidate to head this team, but they are not fond of the Aponte/Philbin axis?

Then they wouldn't be the perfect candidate? The whole point of this search is that we find someone who is willing to be a part of the team. Teamwork is the element that has been stressed throughout the process. We already know these guys can evaluate talent, its the teamwork aspect that we are searching for in this process. And I'm not sure what your issues with Aponte are, whether you have mommy issues or you are scared of women, but her duties would not overlap with a GM who's primary goal is to evaluate talent. She should be considered an asset.

if there's more than 5 guys at that game worth looking at i'd be surprised

...of the names that Mando uses Scott Pioli, Jerry Angelo and A.J. Smith do not excite me at all. The people that Miami have interviewed seem qualified and deserve a shot at the next level of their profession.

Should be an interesting week or so.

Dear God, none of those fools. After such an interesting and excited bunch of candidates these failed retreads are getting mulled over? I'd much rather promote Gaines than even interview them.

Do NFL personnel guys really sit around and gossip like little schoolgirls. I gotta think Mando overstates a bunch of this crap

What a nonsense article. I thought British journalism wasn't great. You guys have got it a lot worse. So, the main 'points' of this tripe....

Aponte and Philbin won't answer to the new GM. Here's the thing, in 12 months if they haven't sorted their performance out, they won't have a choice but to answer.

Jeff Ireland was part of the 'club'. Well, how devastating. Go and get that man back now. He was in the club ! Is this even a serious point ? I mean, why's it in there ? What impact does Jeff Ireland being 'part of the club' have on a new GM ? Am I missing something here ?

The Dolphins will be desperate to get the guy they want. Well, knock me down with a feather ! Really ? There's me thinking they'd hope their first choice knocks them back.

The Dolphins haven't shown an interest in some other experienced GM's. Another surprise. Maybe we should interview them all just so nobody at the NFL boys club feels left out. I mean, again, is this serious journalism ?!?!

And then we repeat again that the Dolphins will hope to close the deal on their first choice. Pathetic stuff, seriously.

This is truly dire reporting. Absolutely scraping the barrel level of writing.

To anyone with an iota of common sense, this is a fairly straight forward situation. Miami have evaluated who they want and have set interviews for those people. They'll then evaluate further, maybe interview further. They'll then decide whom they want and go for them. As in every other walk of life, that person will then have the option of saying yay or nay. If they say no, for whatever reason, Miami will then move on. This isn't rocket science.

The team has shown no apparent interest in interviewing former New England and Kansas City personnel man Scott Pioli, former San Diego general manager A.J. Smith, or former Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo

Thank God. Pioli blows, AJ Smith is a grade A dickbag, and Jerry Angelo sucks, too.

Do we have the ****tiest Sports Journalist(i use this term loosely) in the nation?

him coupled with Omar....with the Loss of Volin, ,, yea we have it PRETTY BAD

Having only one other GM opening helps the Dolphins tremendously in their search. Doesn't hurt that the Miami job is more attractive, either. no need to rush, they should just let the process happen and pick the best guy regardless of "how it looks"

So Armando made up the Mangini talk last week, kept trying to feed it over the course of a week and now admits there is no truth. Just Armando being Armando.

Not to mention he goes on in the article to state the Dolphins have shown no interest in interviewing someone with GM experience and lo and behold we're interviewing Brian Xander...wrong again Armando but feel free to keep trying to pass off your opinions and speculation as factual reporting.

I sear to God Mando writes like it's the TMZ of Miami sports.

I don't believe for one second Miami has to "convince" a guy to take a job doing what he enjoys and gets paid millions to do it.

Complete and utter bull****.

Any GM job of ANY NFL team would be highly coveted.

You can be sure the "rumors" that surround this team start and end with one gossipy bitch: Armando Salgeuro.

I don't like that Aponte is part of this whole league chatter.

As far as getting up and comers, I have no objections to that, but he has to know what he's doing, especially in the draft. The number one reason we got rid of Ireland is because of the drafts, not because he couldn't attract free agents. I can see Farmer being excellent in free agency, that was his specialty, but he's less experienced with the college side and the draft. Let's face it, if we have another crappy draft this year, no one is going to be happy with the new GM no matter what his name is.

No one is talking OC, but that is going to be huge, too. And since no OC has been chosen, I'm wondering if they're looking at someone they haven't yet received official permission to talk to yet, like someone on the staff of one of the playoff teams. Anyone hear any gossip?

You need more gossip than just Salguero?
:)
