Mando: Phins have not been told they're out of Manning, still think they have a shot

What exactly do Kolb and Flynn have in common other than they were back ups on their previous teams???

They are back ups from established qb friendly systems and they aren't the only ones who come from those systems and fail. Cassell, Feeley, Feidler, insert random Detmer. They all havre limited success filling in teams fall for it mortgage the future on them and they fail. We have been down that road more then once. They come from teams with a long established system with the personnel in place we don't have that. For the record I never said I trusted Philbin to land Manning I said he read our best chance.

people rip on Ross for going after Harbaugh with a coach in place, yet it's ok for Elway to go after Manning with a playoff winning QB in place?

QB friendly systems??? Kinda like the one Philbin will be installing here??? Yes most Philly backups have failed miserably. However, quite a few Green Bay backups have succeeded, like: Hasselbeck, Brunell, Aaron Brooks, and Kurt Warner to name a few. Kevin Kolb is the second coming of AJ Feeley, but Flynn is more likely the second coming of Hasslebeck or Brunell. That is worth the risk IMO if Manning balks after 4 pm.

You do realize that we'll be running the same "QB friendly system" here under Philbin and Sherman?

Bottom line is nobody knows anything except for Manning himself, his wife and maybe his agent. I am sure he is gathering all the information. He will then sit down with his wife and decide where they want to be, mostly based on what's best for Manning's career. All these other "sources" are purely speculating and it is quite ridiculous.

You are so right. We're all burning the wires of every source we look at trying to find out if we're getting Manning and these guys are throwing up recycled 'rumor' and ' my source's ' nonsense. I'm going to just step away until, like 5 o'clock, and check in then

Since 1971

Free agency doesn't start until 4 pm, so he's pursuing the only currently available qb option. What should he be doing differently?

I'm getting pretty sick of the Ross-bashing - it's created a perception within the league that's not really deserved.

He went after 2 top coaching candidates in Harbaugh and Fisher. Now he's pursuing a HOF qb, the only available qb right now, and somehow, he's an idiot? Personally, I don't care that Sparano was employed while he pitched Harbaugh - who cares? That's business. I don't see anybody outraged that we're pursuing qb's while Matt Moore is still employed.

So he tried to add some sizzle to the game experience with celebrities and orange carpet stuff - who cares? It was extra-curricular to the football being played- it had no effect, positive or negative, on the quality of the team, player personnel, etc. And let's face it, if were 12-4 and deep in the playoffs, it would be a pretty cool atmosphere, like Laker games, and even the Heat lately.

I like that I have an owner that is actively pursuing the best (perceived) available talent- he just needs to land one! But the fans of his own team perpetuating the negative reputation doesn't help. I'm not saying he's awesome, I just don't think he's done much to warrant the negativity that gets heaped on him.

Agree. I actually like that Ross skipped the interview and left it up to his football people.

First of all I trust Philbin's acumen for QBs over yours. If he thinks Matt Flynn is the answer, I'm on board. And second of all I wasn't even referencing Flynn or any other QB. I'm talking about all free agents...realistically we have enough cap space to sign Manning and that's it, If we sign Manning our free agency signing period is over. I'm more interested in going after Eric Winston to be our RT and possibly a WR to go opposite Marshall but I'd be happy with just Winston.

Well correct me if I am wrong, but Philbin hasn't even expressed interest in Flynn? Blind faith in our HC/GM picking a qb has brought us the likes of; Feidler, Greise, Green, Dumbtee, Lemon, McNoun, Beck, Henne, White, and the list goes on. Don't worry about that rt w have a first round pick for that! You can't speculate on Manning's cap hit he has said its not about the money it is about competing so who is to say he doesn't take a cap friendly contract to get the final pieces in place? It is the media that claim these huge salary numbers. Manning doesn't need to play he wants to play, but he isn't going to tarnish his legacy. He had way to much respect for the game.

.

There is a big difference between established and installing. Not to mention with a shallow qb poll in free agency Flynn won't come cheap and will most likely want a longer term deal then Manning. To much risk imo for a guy with a couple starts.

Do you see the difference in Flynn playing in Green Bays system that had had the core personnel for years and us just starting to run the system? Let's see I get to play a meaningless game against DeToilet and throw to Nelson, Driver, Jennings, Lee, Finley, etc.

He'll get a deal like Kolb did, in which the team who takes him can get out in a year if he doesn't perform. That way the risk is minimal. Now waiting around to be left at the alter yet again is a much steeper risk. We would lose out of Flynn and probably Tannehill too. If Manning doesn't want to talk contract before 4pm, then it's time to move on.

Can't express interest without tampering.
So we shouldn't listen to our HC and GM as to who we should pursue at qb, who should we have make that decision? Ross? Flynryan15?

I agree that if we can't get Manning to egger table we move on. I disagree on Flynns contact some team will break the bank, draft and fa qb is just weak.

Well both Ross and I want Manning so that is a start. You can express interest you just can't talk to them.

This is incorrect. As PFT reported last month after Romeo Crennel made public comments about Peyton Manning.
Given that the tampering rules prohibit at page 3 “[a]ny public or private statement of interest, qualified or unqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media,” and that the NFL’s anti-tampering policy provides as an example a very similar remark (“He’s an excellent player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another club holds his rights.”), the Colts could make a tampering claim, if the Colts choose to make a tampering claim.
