Mando- So where is Jake Long's contract extension, good read.

Keep Long at all costs. Left tackles as good as him are more uncommon than a good pass rusher, he's younger, and we invested a #1 overall pick in him. No brainer to me.

Patience! Man, as much as we love Jake, those injury are starting to pile up, and to give him the contract he deserves without seeing him go through a complete season again, is not to smart.

I agree get Wake long term
Long,Bush,Starks,Fasano,McDaniel,Moore,Fields,Hartline,Smith
all unrestricted free agents after this season
Who will we keep and who can we afford

Glad you brought this up, because if we start spending freely for this year, what the hell are we going to have left for next year. Say what you want about this front office, but they handle the cap well last year since we were able to carry 9 million dollars into this years cap. It seems cool to just waist 8.5 Million Per an-um on Flynn when you have comparable players for much better price, but I'm glad we are thinking long term.

Playing it smart hear I believe. Give yourself the most time to decide his health first off. Secondly, saving a few bucks in cap space now only means that we will pay for it later. Without really having tons of options in FA and a tight cap already why not just let it play out and be in a position to have better flexibility later? I think this current approach is right on. Too many questions marks and not a real reason to fix it and create a bigger mess 2 to 3 years down the line. However, if Manning was in play I think we would have and should have restructured. Simply a matter of circumstance and the current situation justifies our current action.

Completely right on the money with this post.

Cam Wake needs a 7 digit contract... The FO is sooo taking advantage of him..

I dont agree because he had had the one really good season but I agree he needs to get a new contract this offseason, and im sure if he doesnt get one he will be holding out at some point. You gotta respect he played and didnt really complain but this year things will be different I guarantee if they dont offer him a new contract. I just hope they dont go too long term . I think a three year extension with a huge raise would be fair that would take him until he is 34. Anything beyond that goes into the land of more possible dead money. I think he should get a high guarantee of his money though.

They were going to give Smith 8.33 million a year, personally I dont think they are doing a good job on cap since we had no money to spend and we are coming off a 6-10 year.
It was silly for them to even try to get in manning sweepstakes when they had so little cap.

Makes all the sense in the world to test drive it before we buy it. Everyone got their panties in a wad when I used the Boselli comparison, but the FO would be foolish to ignore it. Thomas stays healthy and until Long proves he can no need to risk a long teem deal, worst case we tag him.

I quite agree no reason to extend Long until he shows he can stay healthy this year, he wasnt a top LT last year. he was good but he definatelt was not the best LT in the league by a long shot,

A restructure with Long wont lower his cap. Long needs to complete a full year playing at a high level to get top dollar.

If we are so strapped for cash that we are cutting team leaders like Bell, there is absolutely no excuse as to why we havent extended Long yet.

Even with the injuries, as sad as it is he is our franchise player. As devastating as it would be for him to get paid then get injured, it would be much worse for him to walk out the door in free agency.
Hes consistently played at a high level, hes a good locker room presence, and he clears up some cap. Oh, and we spent the first overall pick on him. This really should be a no brainer.

My offer would be 5 years 25 million 15 million guarantee.
