Mangini

What do we know about Mangini's talent evaluation skills? His team always struggled offensively, right? Isn't he basically a Tony Sparano equivalent?

Just say no living in Ohio I got to see what he did for the Browns and it wasn't pretty

That is fair. Great drafts in NY and Cleveland.

Who actually drafted the players in New York when Mangini was there? Was it Tannenbaum or was it Mangini? I wouldn't say the record there was impressive either way.

Was he the guy in charge of the draft in Cleveland? Because that wasn't very impressive either.

If Mangini was in charge of the drafting at either of those spots, I would maybe bring him in to evaluate DBs and offensive linemen. And that's IT.

Mangini. Tannebaum was a numbers pusher.

Off the top of my head...Alex Mack was his. Joe Haden. Good talent guy.

I think we can agree to disagree about his drafts then.

I would absolutely agree that he did a great job of selecting offensive linemen (D'Brick, Mangold, Mack) in round one. I would also agree that he did a great job of selecting DBs (Revis, Haden, and a couple of other players who have at least been capable starters). But the list of quarterbacks he's drafted, holy crap. Wide receivers, too. He did draft Dustin Keller in the 2nd round and I suppose he deserves credit for that. But at offensive skill positions, QB and DL his record is pretty damn bad.

I'm not even sure he would be an improvement over Ireland.

Hey buddy...How is it going?
I'm not a big Mangini fan, but, a magic 8-ball is better than Ireland.

Actually looking back at Manginis drafts all his picks were no brainers at the time. I mean who passes on Revis and Haden?

Mangini was in New York from 2006-2008. He was in Cleveland in 2009-2010. Notable draft picks included:

2006 Jets: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold, Kellen Clemons, Brad Smith, Leon Washington, Eric Smith
2007 Jets: Darrelle Revis, David Harris, Chansi Stuckey
2008 Jets: Vernon Gholston, Dustin Keller, Dwight Lowery, Nate Garner (released too fast)
2009 Browns: Alex Mack, Mohamed Massaquoi, Brian Robiskie
2010 Browns: Joe Haden, TJ Ward, Montario Hardesty, Colt McCoy

The one organization I would look at for Ireland's replacement is Philadelphia.

The Eagles IMO are stable and rational yet don't get the hype that Pitt, NYG, & even Green Bay do.

I wonder if there was an agreement when Philbin left Green Bay that he could not poach staff/personnel.

It would have been easier had he been allowed to bring a few people along. It might have eliminated the need for Sherman?

Why is the NFL just a big stinking pile of retreads, basically shuffling the same mix of names across 32 teams in a good ole boy crap heap? Is there not some new blood somewhere that could be brought in?

If Miami is switching GMs and leaving Failbin, then they better make sure the GM philosophy matches what the coach wants to do. Because it is clear this coaching staff wants pretty over meat and potatoes, wants glam over smash mouth, and finesse over power.
