I thought in limited action last year he showed us enough that I thought he would produce well this year and maybe even start next year. When we picked him it was said that he wasnt going to be ready to produce for the 2005 season and that he had a lot of baby fat still on him. It seems that quite a few sources say that we aren't looking at Brooks because of what happened last year and we are kind of learning a lesson from it. It all seems like BS and i just want to know if anyone shares the opinion that we might have a solid starter in Wright come this time next year.

I know that he only had a couple of tackles, but I remember one play were he exploded through the line and made a tackle in the backfield. I don't ever remember seeing that type of explosion from a defensive lineman for the phins in a long while. TimBo did it a couple of time in his first couple of years, but I can't remember anyone else from the NG/NT position.

I hope he can put it together.

I think that was the sack against buffalo were he flatened j.p losman.

Manny Wright is full of "coulds", "shoulds", and "ought to's". This camp is the time he has to produce.

I'm not too caught up in "coulds and shoulds" just yet with Manny...He obviously needs more time to mature, as to a lot of 21 yr olds. I think he'll produce better this year, but won't be making us forget about Timbo until next season. Hopefully, by then, he'll have learned what it takes to make it in this league. He's got the natural talent but needs to incorporate the offseason conditioning into his already ample physical ability. He'll be learning more technique this season and probably play well, but look for next season to be his "breakout" season...

Manny is still younger than most rookies entering the league.

He was an immature kid and Saban is moulding him, we've got a long way to go to consider him a failure.

He needs to make inroads this camp, but it is by far the be all and end all.

I'm not so sure there is any 'lesson' to be learned from Manny Wright ...

Bottom line is that if the player is in the Supplemental Draft .. then there are issues -- whether they be character, academic or occassionally medical --but you know that up front. There really aren't too many surprises - except additional unexposed negative ones.

Manny will be OK, he just wasn't mentally ready .. and still may not be - heck he may never be, in order to dominate play like he is capable of. If he WAS ready, he would have never been in the Supplemental Draft !!!!

This is EXACTLY why you DON'T use a Day 1 pick on folks there. The odds are not in your favor.

IF we do bid on BROOKS [and I'm sure we will], it won't be higher than a 4th ... more than likely the same 5th we spent on WRIGHT ...

You NEVER ignore TALENT, equally you never over pay for character or mental FLAWS ...

I equate Manny's situation to a JUCO transfer in college. For some reason they had to go to JUCO route and when they come into the program are not quite ready, often times mentally. It takes a year to get adjusted, but many JUCO kids have monster 2nd seasons.

I think this might be the case with Manny.

all right could we please get off manny *** i mean one report comes out that hes a little overweight and all the sudden hes this fat problem child that everyone needs to discuss. the kid played well last year and if he wasnt putting forth every effort possible i dont think saban would let him keep his job, so could we please wait untill we get a chance to see manny, or he has time to screw up before we cast judgement

It isn't just one report. It's been a history of reports stretching back all the way to high school.

Anyway, when Manny stepped on the field he didn't show me any coulds or woulds or ifs, he showed me what's what. The bottom line is if the kid is in some semblance of shape then he's dominant...until he gets tired. When he gets tired, he's a big fat Manatee. "Brook trout look" is how Saban called it.

Unfortunately, you have to ride him super duper hard core to get him into shape...and some players resent that. I don't think it will ever change, either. He's not the kind of player I'd be comfortable giving a Daryl Gardener contract extension to...because he's not going to take care of business. He's going to wait for you to force him to take care of business.

But that doesn't change the fact that if they successfully get him into shape he's going to make a whole lot of plays this year, and if he exhibits SOME sort of improvement in attitude, he could be a starter next year.

And then hopefully we can trade him off as an RFA for a 1st or 2nd round pick.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Everyone has so much patience for the guy. "He'll be good, He'll be fine, He's going to be great in a couple of years". That's all fine with me, but YOU HAVE TO SHOW ME SOMETHING!:tantrum: When you come to camp overweight each season it tells me you didn't do much to get better. It just tells me you ate a lot. Can I get millions to eat too?:fire:
