I just wanted to jump up on a soap box for a second about Manny Wright and say a few things.

First off, it is entirely ridiculous how much national media attention the crying incident has gotten. Almost as ridiculous is that Manny would cry after getting brow-beaten by Saban for doing what he was not told to do.

There's a lot of confusion, some say the trainer told him not to put on pads, some say the trainer told him he could practice regularly. Bottom line is he wussed out even though he was cleared to practice...and Saban jumped his butt for it.

I just wanted to get something clear to people...he's doing everything he was expected to do. The guy was a 5th round pick because he has all the talent in the world, and because he has a tendency to frustrate and bewilder coaches. He came to camp without being in good shape...well, why should w expect him to be in good shape, he wasn't in shape for his workout. He has fought injury because he's in bad shape, no surprises there. He's pulled a stunt or two already. No surprises there.

He's looked downright "unblockable" on some stretches of plays as well (according to Pasquarelli's new article). Tebucky Jones has noticed that he's out there "doing damage." So, no surprises there either. During games, he will also look "unblockable" at times. It is Saban's job to get him in line to use his considerable talents without letting his lacisdaisical attitude get in the way. We didn't give up a 2nd round pick for this great talent and now all the sudden he's disappointing everyone.

We gave up a 5th round pick for a great talent who is more likely to break our hearts than break open games.

Great observations. For all the so- called projects on this team; Wright ought to be considered one of the bigger projects. Any impact he has this year should be thought of as a bonus.

Amen to that. Great talent for a 5th round pick if he was elgible to stay in college he would have been a 1st or high second round pick. Great jod SABAN

Phenomanal(sp?) post. Couldn't agree more. He will show flashes of brilliance and I'm sure Saban picked him to try and maximize those flashes into consistent brilliance. That would be a steal.

Good analysis. I still think Wright is a good risk and you just know Saban will be riding him hard to make him a better player. If he ever gets dedicated and gets in shape we could have quite a player on our hands. If not, it's a fifth round pick and odds are against players taken in that round anyway.

Excellent post. Wright a gamble well worth the risk. I think Saban's on him early to teach him what's expected and how he's expected to train and perform. To me its good coaching. It's better to find out sooner if he can get it together and show he has what it takes, rather being a career project player.

Good post. I agree with you. Hopefully Wright can turn it up a notch and get in shape before the season. I think it would benefit him and the Defense if he can get in the D-Line rotation to get some needed experience. I'm hopeful that he has what it takes mentally to be successful at the next level.
