This guys is going to be entering the supplemental draft and with this team really in trouble at the DT position I'm wondering if this guy is worth dropping a 4th rounder on and seeing if no other team bites.

With Bowens and Chester both severe ?? marks on the injury front it might be wise to put in someone who could be a functional rotational player.

Sure its a possibility. We do need a young dt to go with all the older injured guys. Whats next years draft look like for dt's coming out though? Maybe it would be better to wait.

I was wondering when this was gonna come up. I think if we get him, Saban will have done his homework on the guy.

dtackles comin up....not in any order

Gabe Watson-Michigan
Rod Wright-Texas
Holata Ngata-Oregon
Orien Harris-From the U

any news on that guy that we drafted vickerson, he could be a good replacement

I rather we get Holata Ngata DT

We need a DT but I can't see Saban using a pick in the Supp. Draft.. Someone will offer too high a pick for each player and I hope its not the Dolphins..

A 4th would be a steal IMO, wed have to bite. Id even consider a 3rd.

nfldraftscout.com, which is web site that Dave Te' Thomas is affiliated with, had Wright rated as the top DT for the 2007 draft before he declared for the supplemental draft this year. He had two years of eligibility left apparently. He made honorable mention All-Pac 10 last year as reserve behind Cody and Patterson. He is a rare physical specimen and a real diamond in the rough, but has a load of upside. If he would have stayed in school even one more year and had an injury free season, we'd be looking at a guy who would likely have been at least a 2nd round pick next year.
Do we want to use a pick as high as the 2nd on him in the supplemental draft, considering that next year we should be picking in the bottom third of each round including the 2nd? I think where we'll be picking next year, we'd have had no shot at this guy in the 2nd round, and this supp draft could be our chance to get him. Though it should be a bumper crop of DTs next year and we'll get the chance to shore up that position one way or the other.

Just my opinion, then again I could be wrong...

i'd seriously consider a 3rd if he fits the type of athleticism saban is looking for. the supplemental draft, albeit a gamble is worth it almost every time you can give up a 3rd for a talented developmental player.
