Manuel Wright

So that really just makes me wonder, is he just good in practice or is our OL just that bad. maybe he was just nervous.
He's in TERRIBLE condition. Like Z said, he was GASSSED after about 3 plays. At USC he must have spent all his free time drinking milk shakes, eating McDonalds' by the bushel and smoking 5 packs of cigarettes a day.

What I dont understand is, from a lot of the camp reports they said that he looked pretty good. So that really just makes me wonder, is he just good in practice or is our OL just that bad. maybe he was just nervous. Also I guess another thing can be that if he was playing with the 1st team there are more people that pose a threat. Hopefully he comes around, but he is a project nobody should expect him to start this year.

In practices he gets rests

It looked like he was playing patty-cake last night with the OL....He needs to get his A$$ in gear.

Exactly my impression. Whenver the camera was on him, it was obvious that he was just going through the motions, not trying at all. He must have been winded and tired, but damn - he wasn;t out there a lot!

He's got a lot of work to do: first, get his head on straight, which hopefully will lead to: second, acquire some semblance of pride and fire; and third, hit the weight room and make something of himself. Something other than the flabby giant with the skinny shoulders on him.

Again, he was looking like he was about to pass out after 3 plays.

This is what u get when u draft a spoiled fat guy from USC! :D jk trojan fans

But if he makes the team Saban better get him in shape and fast

Ok, I have to ask. Was I high last night, or were all of you? Did Wright or did he not make a serious push on the Jason Glenn interception? Yes, the rest of the time he looked gassed, but I'm pretty sure I'm not making this up.

No you were not high, as with everything today everyone is over reacting...He actually had a few decent plays before he ran out of gas...again how long has he been with the team? A month, maybe? Everyone knew his conditioning was bad, do you think he was going to be unstoppable for all his plays?

I for one think his condition may be a good thing, he may come ito shape later in the season which could be great if we make a run for the playoffs, which by the way I think may happen even though we lost a preseason game!

That's exactly was I was thinking!!! I saw a couple of practices and Him, Shaw, and Wilkerson were making Mckinney look bad. So....how bad is Mckenney if these rooks (one who is terribly out of shape) were pushing him back, and going by him???

After last nights performance will Manuel Wright make the team.
I think not

He'll make the team.
The question is whether he'll WANT to stay.
I'm sure Saban plans on riding his arse hard to either make a player out of him or break him. We'll see which happens. The guy is going to be in serious pain trying to get into shape. He's WAY behind where he should be physically.

I think he gets cut...he put forth no effort and there is no time for a "project" PLayer with Saban...this isn't the NCAA it is the NFL..let him sit home for a year and then come back and try and make the team!

Gee, that's smart.
Cut him and expect him to be available after an entire year to try out for the team? No time for a "project" with Saban? :rofl3:

Just about every draft pick is a project first off.
Secondly, the worst case scenario is that they try to sign him to the practice squad without anyone signing him which won't happen because someone will sign him.

The guy is out of shape, which was a major mistake on his part. However, he showed enough promise that a lot of teams were interested. We'd be stupid to just outright cut him. Thanks for your input Rick Speilman but no thanks!

I saw the same as you. I also saw him turn around and look for someone to block when Glenn was returning the ball. His block attempt wasn't the greatest as he seemed tired, but he still got his hands on a guy. It's a good sign that he was aware enough to turn and look for someone to block after the interception.

But like everyone said, he needs to do serious cardio/lifting workouts and get the stamina and strength up. I'm sure he'll make the 53 man roster due to our lack of depth at DT, but I'm not sure if he'll be on the gameday active roster.

Speaking of gameday active rosters? WTF is that, if I have 53 men on my team, why can't I use all 53 men?

O hyeah because all the other teams want an out of shape quitter who crys for the media when the coach is trying to light a fire under his arse!

I think people are going a little overboard here. When he was fresh, he seemed to be pretty disruptive from what I saw. His conditioning is horrible, but it's only going to improve. He would only be rotating in and out of games situationally this year anyways, so Saban will have plenty of time to beat him into shape. It seemed pretty obvious that Saban left his tired a$$ out there to send a message to him.
