Marc Colombo Retires!!

The team would have been better off leaving Vernon Carey at RT. In fact, I wouldn't be opposed to the team bringing back Carey at a vet minimum. He's still a FA and at the very least could provide decent veteran depth at G and T.

I agree on the first count. Carey was more effective at RT by a wide margin than Columbo. That said, I'm not sure he fits well with the zone blocking scheme we are going to employ. He's been mediocre the last two years, but I'm surprised somebody hasn't signed him yet. Is he healthy?

Ireland didn't want him. He was a handpicked Sparano guy.
I'm not an Ireland fan, but I can admit when he did something right (e.g. Bush). Why can't those that support him do the same? Colombo signing is on Ireland. Period. There was more than enough tape of him in Dallas to show how bad he was.

I still cannot believe how a coach can sit and watch game film after game film of this guy getting blown away - and still allow the guy to start - let alone even be on the roster.

He was godawful in Dallas. Flat out horrible. Listening to The Ticket in Dallas during the era when Colombo and Carpenter were on the team was some of the funniest radio I've ever heard.

Of course, we ended up signing both of them. :bobdole:

Yeah, his decision not only to sign Columbo, but to continue enabling, (Henning style) his poor play week after week gives me hope that if we can put enough pieces into place to come reasonably close to replicating the last 9 games of 2011, if nothing more than courtesy of Sparano, we will stand a greater chance of contending for a PO position than again being the spoiler.

Well then....if Ireland is the type that will hire someone like Colombo on a coaches request, when he knows how bad he is...then he should be fired for that too!!! Also, after Sparano left; Ireland kept him on the team. That wasn't Sparano's doing...that was Ireland. Either way...there is no way this guy should have still been on the team after Sparano was gone.
