Do you think that being a QB is a big help to being a WR?
In his case Vick was a WR turned QB turned WR, but do you really think that being a QB is a big help with undertsanding Defenses, lanes, etc.. as a reciver?

I would think it helps him understand what a QB sees on certain routes in certain coverages. He should kind of know where the qB can deliver the ball and thus adjust his route to accommodate the throw..from my experience of playing QB and WR..it aided me well.

Not that ive ever played at the NFL level  But I have played QB and WR in the same season

Only way it really helped me was to understand there are things as a WR you sometimes cant see and you arent ALWAYS open

It certainly can't hurt, that's for sure.

He's had experience as a QB with a high emphasis on coverages, not so much who's open.

Route adjustment is another factor, too. He can adjust the route while running it, because he knows it would make it easier for the QB to deliver the ball.

It also allows him to "possibly" get a roster spot on this team.

Good Answer

I think his previous experience as a WR in High School and a hand full of plays and practices at Tech is more of an advantage. It can't hurt that he's a QB switching to WR, but, his versatility is what will help him make this club. He won't make it purely as a WR. He'll have to be able to do much more than that.

I don't know Vicks background before playing QB at Virginia Tech but I wouldn't think a guy could make that kind of position switch at the NFL level and be successful but it has happened before so some guys can do it.

Hines Ward and Randle El both played QB in college, although Ward played both QB & WR in college. Randle El was moved to WR his Sr year but his QB replacement wasn't getting it done and they moved him back to QB.

In my own Personal experience I had trouble playing any other positions other than my natural position I played since little league but it had a lot to do with my size.

I played linebacker in semipro and there were times in practice and games I was asked to play defensive line and defensive end.

I'm 5'8" and 225 lbs so I found it very hard to get off the blocks of 6'3" to 6"5" O-linemen on the interior line, whereas at LB I had a running start and could head butt linemen as they try to engage me and then use my hands to get off blocks.

Marcus Vick is considered small for an NFL quarterback and I read that due to his height he had trouble seeing receivers in the passing lanes due to the height of the NFL linemen.

At WR he still has his work cut out for him but there have been lots of positive comments about him in different articles so he has the talent to do it evidently.

"You know, it helps a lot being a quarterback switching to receiver, because you understand the coverage, you know the whole field," Murphy, a converted running back, said.

"That's a big benefit, I believe, to Marcus."

being a qb/ wr/ whatever else he is..cant hurt him ...if we are ever in a sit where we need a qb then hell b the man and same with being a wide reciever....but also he can read what the people are doing better because he was/ is a qb

I'm from same area of Virginia as Vick and saw him play in high school...he was a definitely not a WR...he was always a QB in high school...while he was in high school he was already touted as being better than his brother because he was a much better passer though not quite as electric with the ball

Nothing is better for being a WR than having been a WR. Once you get beyond that, then being a QB before switching to WR is the next best option because you understand the offense and where everyone is on the field, what you need to do. But you're still at a disadvantage relative to the guys that have always been receivers.

I think it certainly can't hurt. Vick has great speed...I think that is his best asset in becoming a receiver, even more than being a former QB....ohhh hey congrats on the 20,000 posts CK.

It worked for Ronald Curry, Hines Ward and Antwan Randle-El. The jury is still out on Jaguars WR Matt Jones and it didn't do much for Kordell Stewart, Bert Emanuel and a host of others.

Vick has to learn some humility, listen and retain what the Dolphins coaches tell him when they're coaching him and STAY OUT OF TROUBLE!!!

He is our Randol EL..every team should have one!! That will help him make our team!!!
