Dolphins | Mare on the way out?
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 05:03:51 -0800

Harvey Fialkov, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports Miami Dolphins PK Olindo Mare has asked to be released or traded after recently being told to take a substantial pay cut, according to a source. "They told him he was overpaid and not worth the money, and to take a pay cut or they'll trade him,'' the source said. "He said, 'Are you kidding me? Release me now to give me a chance to find out my market value.' He was shocked.'' Mare is slated to earn $1.4 million this season and signed through the 2009 season. Mare's agent Drew Rosenhaus denied a trade ultimatum was given. "Olindo has a contract with the Dolphins. He would love to stay with Miami. If it doesn't work out, he'll be a coveted guy as a free agent,'' Rosenhaus said.

I said this in another thread, but i'd be bummed to see us lose Mare. Vanderjagt is a great kicker on field turf, but i don't know how good he'd be kicking on that baseball field. Don't bother telling me Vanderjagt's stats.... i know he's a great kicker in Indy.... im just conscerned about his ability to make the transition.

Well like I said earlier I hope it is possible to keep Mare and sign Vandy

Wow.....I really don't know what to say to this.....if the report is true and all.

Why would we do this ??? Two kickers ?? Makes no sense...even having R&R makes more sense than having Olindo and Mike ???

why sign Mike Vanderjagt who is 35 years old? Mare is 32 and will last longer. Yes i like Vanderjagt as a kicker, but if we sign him he wont last more than 4-5 years i think. Mare will last 7-8 years. i think Mare is stupid for asking for so much, hes a freakin kicker.

he isn't asking to be paid that much, he is going to be paid that much. We should just keep him. Vanderjagt wouldn't be much of an upgrade if any at all. Don't you think he will want to get paid around Mare, Longwell type money?

we already have another kicker signed as well that we sent to NFLE, Ola Kimrin. He may not be a household name yet, but he has kicked in the NFL and is a viable option. Mare better get his ducks in a row because the door is shutting quickly.

Ola Kimrin is 35 years old, lol. we need a younger kicker. Olindo Mare is probably the youngest/best option

I have no issues keeping Mare except for his cap hit, over 2 mill this year. that is too much for a kicker. he simply needs to restructure, spread that out over a couple of more years beyond 2009 to ease his cap burden.

Because Vanderjagt is a better FG kicker than Mare, distance wise/acuracy, but Mare is used to kicking off the baseball diamond when its there, and one of the best kickoff kickers in the league, and hasn't he missed a couple of games last year so instead of of signing a nobody later on in the season we could sign Vandy as an insurance policy

man mare is clutch, his kickoffs are outstanding, and he is awesome with onsides kicks, something people tend to forget...vandjergt is a choker we dont need here, you guys ever see the movie replacements, in my mind hes just a character from that movie, the way he spouts off his mouth all the time, i wish we would stay away from this one
