[FONT=Verdana,Arial, Helvetica] Despite his uncertain status, kicker Olindo Mare is expected to report to the Dolphins' headquarters Monday for the first day of the offseason conditioning program.

The Dolphins, who recently signed former New York Giants kicker Jay Feely to replace Mare, have been trying to trade their all-time scoring leader for the past two weeks rather than release him for no compensation.

I was saying this earlier, no team is going to give us anything for a player when we have already signed someone to take his spot. Just like that article is saying. Now the dolphins are trying to make it look like Mare might not be leaving, but after signing feely, its inevitable and teams know this. Like others have said though, we might get something from a team, sixth or a seventh if that team doesnt want to battle with other teams in acquiring him through FA. This could get interesting though.

At this point Miami has nothing to lose. Worst case scenario is that we have to release him, but it is better to hang onto him as long as possible. With time, a team may give up a draft pick.

This reminds me of the Joey Harrington deal. Everybody knew he was going to be released by the Lions in June, yet Miami made the deal in May to get him on the team sooner and start learning the playbook.

Yea but a kicker doesnt have to learn a playbook  . And i doubt someone will give a pick for him, unless there in a real need for a kicker and dont wanna take a chance of not getting him.

Think again......It's not the least bit inevitable. We already paid his bonus.

Not only that who's to say we don't get a higher offer for Feely and take it.

What do you think the Dolphins do if a team offers a 1st day pick for Feely?????????????????????????????

NFL countdown had Mason Crosby being drafted by New Orleans in the 2nd round. Feely is still young and has one of the highest %'s of FG completions in the NFL; How much is he worth?????????????????? A 2nd rounder

Then what???????

Mueller and Cam are crazy like a fox because Mare is still a very good kicker.

I don't know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why are we yelling??????????????????????????

like said above, we could threaten to go into the season with both and mare doing the kickoffs and feely kicking the FGs... and if hes released hes on the open market and a team isn't guaranteed to get him like they would if they trade for him... i think we'll get something for him

Teams WILL give something sooner or later .... once camp starts and they don't have a decent kicker, things change

The difference being, as teams get kickers - it knocks teams from the competition ... in order to get any compensation, there must be multiple teams with a need -- right now there is ... in 3 months -- there may not be ... its a risk worth taking at this point

As stated in previous posts on this subject, I'm willing to get a pick for next year as opposed to this year .... and after the draft - obviously, that's all you'd get ....

Maybe that's what the sticking point is right now .... maybe the FO is holding out for a pick for this year
